Alexikokopops Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 People still take the piss out of me for doing Sociology A Level. To be fair it was definitely easier than Maths. I did maths and further maths you thicko   Stop fucking following me round the forum you rapist.
Phube Posted 21 August 2009 Author Posted 21 August 2009 Why the hell not? I suppose you'd rather have just 1% get A grades then you'd have the opportunity to moan about how thick all the young people in the country are. No-one aged 18 or under can do a thing right in this country. Because if 25% of people get the top marks the paper was too easy! There should be a binomial distribution about the "C" grade level. At the minute it is skewed badly to the "A" grade score! How the hell can you distinguish between academic achievement if everyone get the same grade!

How do you know "the paper" was too easy?, as people have already said access to information is becoming increasingly easy so students are able to glean more information before exams which is a perfectly valid explanation for a increase in achievement. Why is it a problem that more students are getting A's than ever before?, once again it all smacks of the green-eyed monster. 25% is not everyone, and universities are not saying they can't distinguish between academic achievement, the exams and the system is fine as it is.

They've been saying exactly that.

It was too easy (or graded too leniently) if 25% of people get an A! Surely!?! If people can glean information more easily, then the exams should get harder to compensate, you must see this? It's just silly if even moderately good students have 3-4 A's! A's should be something special,to get 3/4 should be exceptional... not the norm for bright kids!
Shrenchel Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 To be fair I think they're brining in A* next year to distinguish between the best of the best. Seems a bit ridiculous though, wouldn't have to if they'd run them properly in the first place.
Raj Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 IF i was alive today i'd have 12 A Levels. ALL Grade A++++. Not worth the paper they are printed in. Real men do BTEC's

Guest ttfn Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 I'm sorry but it's not up for debate what 33 points in the IB is equivalent to... just look at the tariff points table and you'll see that it is, in fact, AAAB. It absolutely is up for debate. That is why universities such as Oxford and Cambridge demand 38 as a minimum for most courses. The bright people score 40+. That is a fact. Of 33 people who did it when I was at school, 2 got 45. That is admittedly exceptional, but many got 37+. Anybody who got less than 34 was undoubtedly bright but not even approaching the calibre of those who got 3A's.
Uncle Albert Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 I'm retaking my final year again at A-Levels but the shit thing is that I could of gone to Sheff Hallam to do the same course as Tommeh if I wanted with my grades but I didnt apply and I can't be arsed with all that clearing shit. Means I can stay on another year and improve my grades to do a better course.
