Toby or not Toby Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Is it any good? I am thinking of going up there with some of my mates for my birthday and was just wondering if anybody new what the nighlife is like up there? Is it pricey or cheap? Is there hotels close to the city centre etc?
James. Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 I'd recommend Canal Street. Canal Street is where it's at mate. Two recommendations from boys IN THE KNOW.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 I'm starting Uni in Manchester next month just thought I'd throw that in there.... But deffinately, Canal Street is where it goes down

Stevosevic Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Best night out in the country IMO. Over 500 bars and pubs in the city center, all relatively close together, girls are fit and easy, great city!
clare Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Loads of hotels, pubs, bars and clubs. You'll have plenty to choose from!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 When I went there on a stag do, my mate who supposedly has a nose for finding good places managed to take us in the New Union (full of women that look like Wayne Rooney, where my one of my mates got goosed by another bloke - it quickly became apparent that it wasn't our sort of place) and The Old Monkey (where pretty much a full on fight broke out between Man Utd and Man City fans and the were pint pots and bar stools being thrown back and forth). So I suggest you avoid those
Shrenchel Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Sankeys is the one. Fantastic club. Don't get their party bus there though, it's fooked up.
Bryn Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Sankeys is the one. Fantastic club. Don't get their party bus there though, it's fooked up. I have never, ever needed a piss as badly as I did when I was trapped on that party bus. Sankeys is fooking amazing though. It's a good night out, loads of choice - if you're the kind of person that likes to go from place to place it's not the most convenient because the centre is so massive. It's also not the cheapest place in the world - it's not extortionate like London but you don't get as good deals as you'd get in say, Newcastle. But like I say, loads of choice. To the original poster, what stuff are you into? Music and that.

Bryn Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Just the usual dance music, hip hop r n b, 90's dance music. World's your oyster then, could go pretty much anywhere. If you can get to Sankeys it's definitely worth going. Avoid the likes of Fifth Ave or 42s, they're a lot more indie. Oh and don't be biased against Canal Street, I think it's a cracking night out regardless of your orientation. Great place to start a night, lots of cheap, nice restaurants and a few good pubs and bars. The amusingly and appropriately named Vellagio is a great little Italian restaurant.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 There's a proper indie night at the Star and Garter. When I say 'proper', I mean it's a bit obscure. Some of my mates requested The Stone Roses, Oasis etc and went home disappointed
Samu Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 5th Ave is definitely the best place if you want cheap drinks! But then again, like you said, it is very indie. There are a lot of clubs in the Printworks, although it's quite expensive there. I never really ventured out there at the weekends, only during the week. Manchester is a cracking night out though!
