Radovan's Caravan Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Tis true apparently http://www.caughtoffside.com/2009/08/23/to...league-players/ Interesting, but selective and highly speculative. Hard to gauge how quick Ronaldo is but his sprinting action is highly suspect as Usain Bolt not so diplomatically pointed out. Owen has an even more serious problem with his style that has also drawn criticism. If players of this calibre at such enormous clubs are so poorly guided makes you wonder about the rest does it not? And here's a little gem that the PC brigade hate to be reminded of. Not a single white sprinter has ever recorded a sub 10 second time for the 100 metres. But more than 200 black sprinters have (all of whom claim West African ancestry). When it comes to the Olympic pool however this picture is almost completely reversed. The multi cultural buffoons say it's all culture and commerce. I go with the sports scientists on this one - fast twitch muscles and high bone density
Darkzzz_ Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 He said he joined the oldest football club in the world. That isn't correct now is it Sol?
lildave3 Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Tis true apparently http://www.caughtoffside.com/2009/08/23/to...league-players/ Nonsense.
Uncle Albert Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Sol Campbell the 2nd quickest player in the Premier League?! Give me a break.
AyewJoking Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Not that crazy, Campbell is past it and I cant see him making too big an impact at Notts. Good move for him moneywise.
Edmund Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Not that crazy, Campbell is past it and I cant see him making too big an impact at Notts. Good move for him moneywise. What you on pal. He is good enough for the prem still.
Tommy G Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 What you on pal. He is good enough for the prem still. Every time I look at your sig I think to myself what a waste of good Veuve Clicquot It's depressing, drink it don't spray it everywhere
Head Honcho Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 He said he joined the oldest football club in the world. That isn't correct now is it Sol? Isn't it? I thought it was common knowledge that Notts County are the oldest professional football team in the world

leicesterfox86 Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 If I was Campbell then I wouldn't of turned them down. 40k a week and a 5 year contract - Yes please Exactly. He would have only got a one-year deal at at Premier League / Championship club. To have a five-year contract at 34 really is quite something.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Eriksson's decision makes little sense. He has committed £10 million over five years on a creaking, unfit player who will be very hard pushed to be the difference in the Championship at 36 - if Notts County make it that far, that quick. Sven has put one cracked, slightly whiffy egg in his rapidly bio degrading bag. The Notts project looks a serious one and many good, lower profile players whose positions are tenuous at lesser Premiership and upper Championship sides would consider seriously a £2 million offer over three years from County. Such husbandry would make it easier for the Swede to persuade the tycoons to let him snatch 3/4 more similar sized eggs fresh out the bantam's bum. I know, getting cover and competition for places in a division where a club's squad includes the roster at the nearest non league side is too obvious a strategy. Sven must have a cunning plan. Would losing on penalties in the first round of the play offs be roughly the equivalent of being knocked out in a World Cup QF?
FilboFox Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 It's a very good signing for County... 1. Sol's still got it. Plain and simple, he'll be more than capable of playing quality football at the back for at least a couple more seasons. 2. He's gonna scare the sh*t out of the League 2 and probably most of League 1's attacking forces... this in itself will contribute massively to help them keep out the goals. 3. He'll be a massive presence at the back, almost like a second captain, assuming he's not theirs already. He'll be commanding the players around him and with the wealth of experience he has, it'll really help Notts move forward. Overall it's a shrewd move by Sven and I'm absolutely positive it'll pay dividends within weeks.
Shrenchel Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Football league's salary rules shown to be a pointless joke once again. Apparently if the Munto boys were to withdraw their investment before the end of his contract, he'd become a creditor so big that'd he'd bankrupt the entire club.

He is increasingly injury prone. He is expected to play 20% more league games but his recent appearance record suggests he will struggle to make half the season. You forget too that a good central defender in a lower league side will, more often than not, find that his best efforts are nullified by the antics of a less talented partner. Sven is as shrewd as a kid who's blown all his Crimbo money in a sweetshop. If he was operating as a coach under ordinary conditions he probably would not have looked at Sol let alone HAND HIM A £10 MILLION PENSION. Eriksson has done this for one reason and one reason only: to 'prove' to his bosses that he still has the clout to pull in (ie piss away squillions on) a big name. Only Sparky 'Yosser' ('I could do that') Hughes appears to have a tougher job.

Im guessing it's another way to get round the lower league wage caps and pay him off when he is surplus to requirements. Basically it is a way of paying him a high wage but not in one go. Thats my theory anyway.

Radovan's Caravan Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Didn't he play in 30+ Premier games for Pompey last season? Yeah you're right. I was thinking about his appearance record at the end of his Arsenal stint. Alzheimers clearly setting in...

They guy on SSN explained the loophole the other day, Quite simply if the money for Campbell's wages is given as a gift from wealthy benefactors (which they obviously have) to the club for them to pay his wages then it doesn't count towards the wage cap.

Nobody is going to be running scared from Sol bloody Campbell. If anything forward players are going to be even more up for it and wanting to have a go at him.
lildave3 Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Big Sol won't like the League 2 banter. Him and Lee Hughes to fall out by November.

Darkzzz_ Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I see him and Lee Hughes on the tele walking into training together, I can see big Sol hammering away at Lee Hughes at the Notts County xmas party. I guess Hughes would be used to taking on a defender after his time inside.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Sol's first game for Notts County is penciled in for the 19th September I think I heard so while he is travelling to Morcambe, Portsmouth will be on a luxury coach travelling to Villa Park. Fairplay Sol.
Fosse Boy Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I think I read that Jordan Stewart's on his way there too.
