marbelladave Posted 12 October 2009 Posted 12 October 2009 Clearly someone has taken up the milktray role of just posting things to get a rise out of people That is my job! Do the rest of the squad want DJ around or do they just think he is a tosser? That is the only question that really matters! I have no idea of the answer but maybe someone out there does....
BedsFox Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 leicester City's forgotten striker DJ Campbell is a man desperate to make up for lost time after an unhappy couple of years at the Walkers Stadium. His Foxes career has barely got off the ground since his £1.6m move from Birmingham in July 2007. Within a few weeks the man who signed him, Martin Allen, had been sacked. Since then Campbell, 27, has been plagued by injuries and when he has been fit his best form has deserted him and he has struggled to hold down a regular spot. And any chance of a turnaround in his fortunes as a Leicester player seemed slim when he was sent out on loan to Championship rivals Blackpool last season. But Campbell scored nine goals in 20 games during a five-month stay with the Tangerines. Such was Campbell's dissatisfaction that he told the local press in Blackpool he did not want to go back to Leicester. However the former Birmingham frontman strenuously denies he ever meant to cause any offence. "All I said was I had no future," Campbell told BBC Radio Leicester. "It was not that I didn't want to come back but at the time things weren't working out but I'm back now and I'm pleased to be back. "It's been a bit frustrating not being involved but now I'm involved I'm happy. I spoke to the gaffer and he's been great to me. "The time hasn't been good here. Most of the time I've been injured and when I have been fit I haven't been fully match fit so I haven't played. "When I have played, I haven't played to my best and obviously the club and fans haven't seen the real DJ Campbell." And Campbell insists he is eager to put pressure on his fellow forwards Matt Fryatt, Steve Howard and Martyn Waghorn and make the most of his second chance. That is a scenario that has seemed highly unlikely at any stage during the past 11 months. Until his substitute appearance against Coventry earlier this month Campbell had been out of the picture since making his last Foxes appearance in the League One fixture against Crewe in late November 2008. CAMPBELL: Goals to games BRENTFORD - Games 18 (plus 10 as sub) Goals: 12 BIRMINGHAM - Games 24 (26) Goals: 12 LEICESTER - Games 22 (22) Goals: 5 BLACKPOOL - Games 20 Goals: 9 And after returning from his loan spell last term Campbell was training with youth team and was not even given a squad number at the start of the season. His chances of forcing his way into Pearson's plans seemed bleak. That changed two weeks ago when he was finally given a squad number and his substitute appearance against the Sky Blues has whetted his appetite. "Going away to Blackpool on loan has helped me," Campbell admitted. "I went on my own, I didn't take my family because I had to concentrate and get focused again. "I scored a few goals there and I'm back, fit and I have no injury problems. I've spoken to the gaffer and things are fine now. "I haven't got anything but praise for the gaffer; he's always said he wants me involved and now I'm involved, hopefully I can score the goals I know I'm capable of and get Leicester into the Premier League. "I have to keep training hard and keep showing that I'm sharp, that I want to play and when I get a chance to come off the bench I have to take it. "I've worked hard in the last four months to get back into the squad. I'm not quite there yet because I'm not starting and until I'm starting and scoring I won't be. But when I am, the achievement will be massive "I hope the fans do appreciate that and know that I appreciate them."
Jon the Hat Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Not quite an apology is it? More of a political clarification. You would have thought he could have said that months ago.
Panz Posted 16 October 2009 Posted 16 October 2009 If he gets a chance to play and he does well then all will be forgiven from me! Hope he can do it and prove the doubters wrong
renards Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 Well if we are now comparing players on goal ratios what was Fryatts in the same season we got relegated? Or Hayles? And then you have nearly forgotten he was scoring nearer 1 in 2 at Blackpool When I compare players I do with similar attributes. Benjamin and Campbell don't strike me as similar players. Wether he's in the shop window, only time will tell. Point taken 'a poor man's Elvis Hammond' may of been a better comparison. He may have suited Blackpool's style or been up for it, I can only go on the games I have seen him in (inc all home, most away and several pre season) and my opinion of him is that he's poor.
davieG Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 From the Merc DJ Campbell has revealed Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson was reluctant to allow him to go out on loan to Derby County. The striker said the reason his one-month loan move to the Rams was so protracted was because he had to convince Pearson to allow him to go. The 28-year-old, who scored the last-gasp equaliser for Derby against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, said it was vital that he was allowed to go out on loan to gain valuable match practice. Campbell also revealed he would be open to extending his stay at Pride Park if he is playing regularly and scoring goals. "He (Pearson) didn't want me to go – that is the reason the loan took so long to go through – but I wanted to come here and play," Campbell told the Derby Telegraph. "It is only for a month but we'll see what happens at the end of it. If things are going well and I'm playing and scoring goals, we will see where that takes us. "Last season, I was coming back from an injury and needed match fitness, which I wasn't getting at Leicester, so I went on loan to Blackpool. "This season has been kind of the same and I've not really been getting a look-in at Leicester and it's been tough. "But I'm an old man now! I'm 28 and I need to be playing games, so that's the main reason I've come here. I need to be playing week in, week out and that is what I will be looking to do. "The fans can expect to see a lot of things from me. I have got pace and I'm a goalscorer. That's what I'm here to do. "I'm happy to be here. I was a bit disappointed not to play but that's football and we'll see how it goes. I want to play. That's the reason I came here."
Ford Super Sunday Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 I dunno, maybe he'll finally have learnt what the 'Offside Rule' is while he's at Derby, might do him some good when he comes back.
davieG Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 I dunno, maybe he'll finally have learnt what the 'Offside Rule' is while he's at Derby, might do him some good when he comes back. Well he seems to have taught his version of it to Fryatt and Waghorn either that or he's not as bad with is off-sides as people make out.
Edmund Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 Well he seems to have taught his version of it to Fryatt and Waghorn either that or he's not as bad with is off-sides as people make out. Bloody nora I think he's got it. Seriously though he was just made another foxestalk scapegoat. I say good luck to him at Derby, he just wants to play football and score goals i.e a goalscorer Gutted that we aren't the ones profiting.
lou Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 Well he seems to have taught his version of it to Fryatt and Waghorn either that or he's not as bad with is off-sides as people make out.
