porter01 Posted 20 May 2005 Posted 20 May 2005 How about De Vries as captain? 106414 erm no not a good idea he hardly gets in the team and cant score
EmLeee Posted 21 May 2005 Posted 21 May 2005 Connolly 109273 You're having a larf, surely? 109282 maybe that's what he needs - the responsibility of being captain...hmmmm... but it has to be Paddy or Maybury
Nationwider Posted 21 May 2005 Posted 21 May 2005 Craig didn't sound too bothered about the captaincy on the radio last night. He is hoping to have 7-8 players out there who are winners, that don't need picking up by one person. So that when that player is out injured, Dublin, or Tiatto (if that's the case then it's sure to be very often) we won't be worrying about needing a player to pick the rest of the team up, or something along them lines. 106366 I think that's a good way of looking at it. Not sure it makes that much difference who wears the armband, personally.
hinds12 Posted 21 May 2005 Posted 21 May 2005 I find it hard to believe that people are suggesting mccarthy. Hes still very young and has only been at the club for 5 mins. i believe we should go for sum 1 like mayburry or connoly!

I was hearing that thats just the way he likes to train though.
supedaj Posted 22 May 2005 Posted 22 May 2005 yep connolly wouldnt be good choice as captain Always better to have someone older, more experienced, i.e. dublin, tiatto, maybury. Can you imagine mccarthy or williams as captain and them telling dion where to stand and where to defend from for set peices? I think not - it just wouldnt work. Dion has the most experience and is suited to lifting the team. Williams and mccarthy still have a fair way to go before they can be captain i think
Craig Posted 22 May 2005 Posted 22 May 2005 Connolly 109273 You're having a larf, surely? 109282 He was captain at Plymouth, so why not?

Connolly really doesn't come across as the type of player who would boost morale at all, bit of a loner too. I'd always have Dion as skipper if he was playing.

connolly19 Posted 22 May 2005 Posted 22 May 2005 Connolly could be the same sort of captain as Michael Owen is for England when David Beckham doesn't play. He makes players play well as he sets examples for the team by playing well and giving 100%. Although he is not the best leader we have got at this club he would set a standard players have to perform to.
