A fox for life Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 He was the best referee I've seen this season.Let the game flow as much as possible, played advantage at every opportunity, and wasn't card happy like most referees are. me and my dad commented on this! i dont agree with the first post at all, the referee had a great game. he could have blown up for dyer getting fowled but let the play go on and we scored!!! he did this alot throughout the game and didn't dish out too many cards as it wasn't a dirty game. yeah it wasn't perfect but it certainly didn't warrent this thread.
Donut Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 He was the best referee I've seen this season.Let the game flow as much as possible, played advantage at every opportunity, and wasn't card happy like most referees are. He let the game flow to the extent that he let a 15 man brawl kick off, Didnt give cards for challenges meriting cards (and that includes challenges by our players), and Steve Howard got fouled all game and got nothing. The referee did one good thing all game and played advantage on the Dyer foul for the goal. All in all the ref wasnt good
C-man Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 If I had posted in here yesterday I would have said that he was okay. Thinking about it, he was very poor. Missed a hell of a lot for both teams, blew up for innocuous incidents and although he tried to play the advantage as much as possible he still restricted the flow of the game.

His absence in not blowing the whistle about 30 seconds earlier led to that 15 man brawl and nearly two red cards. Excellent work!
DB11 Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Handled it well? He just stood to the side and let him get on with it Usually I come on here saying the referee was nowhere near as bad as people made out, but todays ref was poor in many ways. The fact he didn't book anyone was absolutely ludicrous. McGivern could EASILY have walked. Quite a few others should have got yellows too. The amount of late fouls, or niggly things he just let go was huge and while usually you say it's letting the game flow it just made the players get more and more frustrated. Very dodgy. I remember a yellow card to one of their players for handball? I would look at the match stats but cba The ref was crap. He lost control which lead to the brawl (should of gave mcgivern a card), defo penalty 1st half.Thought we would of got a prem ref with all their games being off. Must say the best ref we've has this season was the sheff wed game. C Broyson I think his name was. The referee would have been appointed before the Prem games were off and the game was televised. Imagine your boss saying to you, "You had this job, but now it's on tv we're changing you." What a moral booster that would be.
The Doctor Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 McGivern's cynical and dirty chopping down of Peters before the brawl wasn't even punished! There were three occasions where Ipswich did the odd cynical and dirty pull and trip to stop the flow. No yellow card. The ref was crap. Must say the best ref we've has this season was the sheff wed game. C Broyson I think his name was. he did book mcgivern for the challenge but not the ipswich lad for lashing out at mcgivern after nor did he book the lad attempting to crush fryatt 10 seconds before.

No he didn't. *Goes and checks on LCFC match report* No he didn't. One caution was issued all game, and it was to an Ipswich player (for his handball in the first half).

Would be abit of pressure working on t.v, plus I wouldnt want the fame.

Narborough Bod Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 The playing of advantage was excellent in my opinion. And the fact that he was erratic with his decisions on fouls...just made the game more interesting. Would much rather have a game like that because it gets our (bored / quiet) crowd up on their feet with something to shout out, than have a whistle happy bloke dish out cards left, right and centre and take the sting out of the game. Aspects of his reffing were great, much of it was diabolical, overall, a bizarre afternoon for the man in black.
