Todays Referee

Now I have seen some bad performances in my time (I have witnessed Mike Riley), but the referee of today's game was a disgrace!

Howard deserved a Yellow if not a red, The "brawl" occurred because the referee did not give a blatant decision to Fryatt on the half way line, then once retribution was dished out he again gave no cards out. I like a referee letting the game flow & not being too harsh but today "performance" was an utter disgrace!

There was a 2 footed challenge on King I think which went unpunished, Walters nailed McGivern numerous times and there was no punishment.

The only thing that he felt needed any action was when Howard head locked & threw Norris to the ground, then it was just a talking too, afterwards it appeared that Big Steve clipped the referee quite hard around the head.

Bizzare refereeing of the highest quality! :dunno:

He was the best referee I've seen this season.

Let the game flow as much as possible, played advantage at every opportunity, and wasn't card happy like most referees are.

I wouldn't call him a disgrace, but he was certainly a very bizarre ref. Howard definitely deserved a yellow for head-locking and throwing Norris to the ground. And to add insult to injury he clipped the ref around the head quite hard. That was bizarre.

I didn't think the brawl was that bad. There were just a lot of pushing & shoving, handbag stuff. Nowt major IMO. I thought a few verbal warnings to said individuals was enough.

The ref was pants.

Players aren't allowed to touch the ref and should be reprimanded for that. Whilst he tried to let the game flow, he should've got his cards out on a few occasions today.

Referee needs to grow a pair in my opinion.

How Steve managed to walk off the pitch booking free is beyond me. Same could be said for Walters after that challnge on McGivern, the poor lad must have been detectable on radar. There's 'letting the game flow' and being a no-mark limp dick. Ref fell into the latter category today I'm afraid.

McGivern's cynical and dirty chopping down of Peters before the brawl wasn't even punished!

There were three occasions where Ipswich did the odd cynical and dirty pull and trip to stop the flow. No yellow card.

From where we were sat in the kop i thought Mcgiven was lucky not to have been sent off,not so much for the challenge but did he not try and take a swipe at their player after?

Although I don't believe refs should be put in the position of having to judge "advantage", I felt he applied it consistently well today. I thought he should have produced the yellow card on a few occasions, notably to Howard, but there seems to be a reluctance to do so amongst all refs at the moment; perhaps they have been instructed. Bizarrely, he ignored the clear attempts to bring Fryatt down immediately before McGivern sparked off the 'handbags' incident. Generally, though, I thought he was one of the better refs we have seen this season.

I felt he could have cautioned a number of players, and was slight inconsistent with the defender holding attacker from punt upfield scenarios, but he played advantage well.

Wasn't the worst I've ever seen. Colchester at home last season. He was shocking. Don't think he got a single thing right either way. At one point I think Hayles hacked down one of the Colchester players and he gave a free kick to Leicester. Fantastic for us, but seriously how can anyone come to that decision?

The ref was atrocious today. His failure to blow up for the fouls on Fryatt directly contributed to the brawl. He was completely unable to crack down on Ipswich's persistent fouling (I think Ipswich are the dirtiest team I've seen all season - clearly influenced by that thug and disgrace to the game Keane). I'm utterly surprised that they kept 11 men on the pitch.

It seems to me that perhaps because he was in front of the cameras he wanted to look as if he was allowing the game to flow. Instead he looked weak and unable to control the game properly.

i thought the forth official had a blinder.....have to give me uncle some credit

Apart from his failure to put the board up at the end of the first half

Funny because i thought the ref was one of the best i have ever seen.

He let the game flow, the brawl was 6 of one half a dozen of the other he handled it well, he played advantage very well and pulled it back when that failed.

Sure there were a few tackles that were fouls that he didn't give but that made the game flow a lot better.

I thought this would be a thread praising how good the ref was, how wrong i was :D

Handled it well? He just stood to the side and let him get on with it lol

Usually I come on here saying the referee was nowhere near as bad as people made out, but todays ref was poor in many ways. The fact he didn't book anyone was absolutely ludicrous. McGivern could EASILY have walked. Quite a few others should have got yellows too. The amount of late fouls, or niggly things he just let go was huge and while usually you say it's letting the game flow it just made the players get more and more frustrated.

Very dodgy.

I thought he was crap... Along with a look-a-like of Darren Ferguson o_O

Too many fouls missed and always relied on his assitants to make the decisions for him... Not how i expect a football league referee to be.

He gave Howard nothing all game which was frustrating - more so when Stern John backed in late on and got a free kick with just one person challenging him - whereas Howard always had 2/3 on him and got no decision.

However, the advantage he gave for our goal was outstanding.

The ref was crap. He lost control which lead to the brawl (should of gave mcgivern a card), defo penalty 1st half.

Thought we would of got a prem ref with all their games being off.

Must say the best ref we've has this season was the sheff wed game. C Broyson I think his name was.
