James. Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 Kicked off with Slumdog Millionaire on Wednesday evening - great film and ideal way to start. Then we had Kevin McCloud living in the largest slum in India for 3 weeks in "Slumming It". Last night's episode was fascinating, it's on again tonight at 8pm. The conditions in the slum are obviously dreadful but we could learn a hell of a lot from the spirit and sense of community (1 million people living in a 1 square mile area with practically zero crime...) Also coming up got Ramsey cooking some Indian food, an Indian episode of Secret Millionaire and an interesting looking Dispatches program. I've always found the country fascinating and am now even more intrigued after learning I'm probably going to spend 6 months later this year over in Mumbai through work. Can't wait to be honest. Not to mention the fact I fucking love curry. Anyone else watching? Indian Winter
hairy Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 Slumming It was good last night especially McCloud's face when he was a rat
James. Posted 15 January 2010 Author Posted 15 January 2010 Slumming It was good last night especially McCloud's face when he was a rat It was a great choice sending McCloud. Completely out of his depth and comfort zone means you get a really good, honest insight into life there. Was amusing, harrowing and inspiring all at the same time. Hoping for more of the same tonight.
lildave3 Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 I watched Slumdog, I thought it was quality. And I usually dislike things like that.
StanSP Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 I quite liked McCloud's documentary thing. I kinda knew it went on but had no idea about the millionnaire(s) who would live in the slums. Think there is an overkill on the 'Slumdog' titles though after the film.
Leicfox Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 Not to mention the fact I fucking love curry. I went to Goa for 3 weeks. I fooking love curry too.
dandannieldanok Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 Think there is an overkill on the 'Slumdog' titles though after the film. I don't know a thing about India and maybe it's not a big thing for them or anything, but I agree it is overkill and it seems a bit strange and patronising to me.

I was in Bombay almost 30 years ago and although I didn't visit Dharavi, I went to the Falkland Road district instead and all I can remember was it being a mass of people and quite an experience.
Shrenchel Posted 16 January 2010 Posted 16 January 2010 Kevin McCloud's thing last night was pretty interesting. He's a cvnt though. His conclusions were about as a deep as a puddle of piss and all the stuff about how Britain has been far too materialistic for the last 60 years is pretty laughable coming from a millionaire who spends most his time advising rich twats on the best way to spend 100 grand building a summer house at the bottom of their garden.
