First "Respect" Fixture

Only question I've got about this is 'how did the 'respect the ref? you're havin' a laff' chant come across on the live TV? I thought it was possibly the loudest I've ever heard the Walkers, and I'm sure there were one or two people in the West Stand joining in too. That normally only happens when Mark Selby shows off some silverware.

I was saying this to my mate in the game. It was the loudest I've heard the kop for a while and also the first time I've seen nearly the whole kop stand up and shout at the ref. Thought it was brilliant to be fair.

Must say the atmosphere in the kop overall yesterday was great. Wish it was like that every match.

If the club can go to the effort of making loads of cards spelling out respect, would be nice if they could go to the effort some other time spelling Foxes or something.

If anything it got the Kop Vocal for once. First time i've seen nearly everyone stand up and chant. Mind it was at the Ref and to chant 'Respect the Ref, you're having a laugh' But it's progress! :giggle:

Who gives a shit?

The 1st blatant penalty claim we have that gets turned down (there's bound to be at least one) all of us will be screaming insults at the ref.

The respect campaign can fvck off. Keep the passion in the game.

From the FA

Foxes and Magpies show their Respect

Monday, 01 February, 2010

Respect day at Leicester's League match with Newcastle.

On Saturday The FA was invited by Leicester City to use its Championship fixture with Newcastle United to promote the club’s support of the Respect Programme.

With the support of Leicestershire and Rutland CFA, local leagues and clubs were welcomed to the Walkers Stadium and recognised for their commitment to improve behaviour in football.

Prior to this important game both teams warmed up in Respect t-shirts, representatives of local leagues were presented with their Respect certificates and as kick-off approached the 5,500 fans in the family stand showed their support by holding up Respect Cards.

In the match programme FA Chief Executive Ian Watmore commented; "Since its launch RESPECT has made great progress. Perceptions may still be skewed but the reality is that in the professional leagues we are making inroads, where dissent cautions are down year-on-year and cases of harassment of match officials are almost negligible.

"In the amateur game there a long way to go, but still the signs are that we’ve stabilised what was a growing trend towards abusive behaviour."

He added: "Most positive of all we believe that RESPECT has re-established a route into refereeing and this year over 5,000 new referees have been welcomed on to parks pitches up and down the country.

"We now need to keep these referees and not lose them to intimidatory behaviour if we’re to make sure everyone who plays the game has a referee to make it a real game of football."

The match itself finished 0-0.

Didn't mention the 10-15k singing 'You're having laugh', but from that report seems like it's just the players that need to show respect, nothing about the FA and referees respecting the paying customers.

Another question i've just thought of is, We are told in this 'Respect Campaign' to respect the referee, respect his decisions, and opinion (To make a decision he needs an opinion on it).

So, When players or managers make their opinion's known on decision's made by the referee's why do they get reprimanded on it? How come they can't have their opinion's known on the matter if the referee has made a bad decision(s)? Fair enough if managers and players go off on one for no good reason they have a reason to be reprimanded, but surely if the referee has made bad decision(s) managers and players have a right to bring it up, and their opinion on the matter (if correct) should be respected.
