LCFC-ARAB Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 Just looking for some info on Dublin really I'm going on the 28th of may to watch Ireland v Algeria and have no idea what Dublin is like Is there an area where all the bars are or city centre i should aim to get to for pre game drinks? and any info on hotels that people know about? I really am clueless about Dublin so any information would be awesome
Matt Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 Beautiful place, Love it. I was looking to go for New Years but looks abit too expensive, besides i'm going Australia for christmas now anyway, but yeah brilliant place, great atmosphere, friendly people, and lots of drink! Check out and get information on Temple Bar, and not sure you'd be that bothered but the Guinness factory is a nice place to visit, St James Gate, and you get a 'free' pint of Guinness at the top overlooking Dublin, I say 'free' because no-one gives fook about the factory and everyone just runs to the top to get the 'free' pint, so really its just an expensive pint! Great place to visit nontheless.

fatmando Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 I went Dublin earlier in the year mate. It's over 5 euros for a pint of Guinness in Temple Bar (the best area to be in at night time). The Guinness tastes much nicer in Ireland and slips down very easily. Take plenty of cash with you. Mrs and I thought the Guinness Factory was rather boring really. Wouldn't recommend it. 15 euros each. Some good photo opportunities but that's about it. Friendly, smart little city. Was definitely worth a visit. Wouldn't go back again however, not that much to do really. Take some decent shoes, I took new trainers and had blisters on top of blisters!! Have a good 'un!
Guest ttfn Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 The Guinness factory is awesome. It's seven floors, you get to see how it's made, you can watch all the (classic) adverts and the pint you get at the top is the best pint of Guinness you'll ever drink. Fitzsimon's in Temple Bar is an ok sports bar.
FoxyPV Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 Take plenty of cash with you. I can't really emphasize that enough - the free state is a dear hole. Dublin is alright if you are in the Temple Bar area but the rest of it is quite deprived and basically shit! Have plenty of guinness though! Enjoy!
Daggers Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 It's over 5 euros for a pint of Guinness the Guinness Factory...15 euros each. As Johnny Rotten once said - "ever had the feeling you've been cheated?" You've got to really fucking love Guinness to pay that kind of bollocks.

Guinness is the cheapest drink! I had a vodka and red bull in The Temple Bar.......only 9 euros!!! Sandwich cost 5 euros. Fast food places around are good value tho, well decent burgers. There are spar shops on every other street aswell.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 I'm planning to head to Dublin for a week in early July after I've been to the world cup. But with the amount I drink and being on a backpackers budget 5 euros a guiness, Dublin could be a very bad idea. Is Cork very similar price wise??
Darkzzz_ Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Dublin is brilliant, temple bar is really cool and can get very typically Irish after a few too many. I was so drunk that I puked up in the street the following morning only for one old lady to come by and tell me not to worry about it as everybody does it.
Corky Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 I went there about ten years ago, loved it. The place was so vibrant, obviously I couldn't go into bars and pubs (being 11 at the time) but I still had a good weekend (even though I missed a home match, can't remember who it was against now?)
Bert Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 If you're a fond Guiness drinker, you're told to stay away for the factory, because you'll never get a good pint anywhere else.
fatmando Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Is Cork very similar price wise?? I don't know mate. I only went to Dublin city centre. I ve heard Cork is a really good place to visit though.
