philce Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 If you watch the incident, I don't believe he even heard the whistle. The ball wasn't being kicked away, he'd spotted the keeper off his line and was totally focussed on taking the shot - you can see it in his body posture. The officials covered themselves in a bit of excrement on Sunday. To be honest, I was in L1 and I heard the whistle, He was 20 yards from the ref, It looked more like he was pissed that they got the free kick and kicked the ball away. He's just a twat for kicking the ball away, too easy for the ref to get a close up on TV!
Fatbloke Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 Well done Gunnarsson. You my friend are an arshole !!!!
Guest DavidJCW Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 Well done Gunnarsson. I'm no fan of McShite, but I don't want to see him getting injured like that. Foul and definite booking in my opinion.
Wycombe Fox Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 Fair play to both of them for having the bollocks to go for it - it's a man's game. No it's not anymore. It was a 'man's game'. The Laws of the Game don't permit it to be what was traditionally known as a 'man's game'. For me it was at least a booking.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 Foul and (for me) a booking because it was late. But i don't think there was any intent on Gunnarson's part to injure McGivern. Also thought it was a wee bit harsh how the fans reacted to Gunnarson like a cheat for the rest of the match, straight in with chants of 'willy puller!' etc & booing him whenever he touched the ball for a while. Just an accidental clash of heads is the way I saw it & as someone else has already said, fairplay to both for going for it. That said, anything for a bit of atmosphere
Criggers Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 He got away with it because it was a header. If that was a late sliding tackle there is no question it would have been a yellow card. If it was a raised foot anywhere up the leg then maybe even a red. Question is, why is a late (intentional or not) header/headbutt any different to a late tackle with the feet? It should have been a booking in my opinion. "Mans game" or not, you can't go go jumping into challenges late without looking at the ball. Would you call it "clumsy"? Because we have seen enough bookings for clumsy challenges over the years. Just to top it off, what makes it worse for me is that McGivern was already off the floor, so not only did he smash his face who knows he could have landed. It was just a dangerous challenge.

Edmund Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 I got the feeling Coleman did his homework and gave orders to go in hard on McGivern. From the off they were attacking down the right wing as much as possible as well.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 yeah it did upset me! sitting in the kop, i've forgotten what it is like to feel passionate about anything so people standing up ( albeit briefly), shouting & even swearing just knocked me for six! but seriously, it annoys me that the only thing that unites the crowd at the walkers & the only thing that people ever seem prepared to stand up sing & shout about is when the referee makes a decision. they can't be arsed to muster up a bit of enthusiasm for the actual football but the ref blows his whistle & suddenly everyone cares?!?!?!

It's been like that for years even at Filbert St, I guess it's worse now especially from the South Stand because they have no away fans to berate.
deepbluedevil Posted 24 March 2010 Posted 24 March 2010 No foul in my opinion. thought both were going for the ball
davieG Posted 24 March 2010 Author Posted 24 March 2010 No foul in my opinion. thought both were going for the ball Going for the ball does not make it legitimate, plenty of tackles involve going for the ball but if you mistime them and clatter someone's legs it's a foul and depending on the severity a yellow or red card.
Criggers Posted 25 March 2010 Posted 25 March 2010 I don't see how Gunnarsson's challenge was any different to that of Malouda's last night. And look at the coverage that has got. I specifically remember the commentator saying that although he was 'going for the ball' it was late and he had 'no chance of getting the ball'. Gunnarsson had no chance of winning that header, it was dangerous. Yellow card.
Fatbloke Posted 25 March 2010 Posted 25 March 2010 So very mean. And saying well done to an opposing player for injuring one of ours is`nt mean then ? he could quite easily have done the lad serious damage !
