SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 April 2010 Posted 28 April 2010 I'm leaving for overseas in 4 weeks doing Botswanna and Zimbabwe before being based in Durban for Australia's World cup campaign. Then travelling around Europe for a few months then after Oktoberfest basing myself in Leicester for an extended period of time. So is there any advice for someone with no travel experience, things to or not to do, Things to look out for, things to see or even if it's just advice on the best way to find work or share accomidation in Leicester. Any advice will be benificial as i'm starting to shit bricks.

My time spent traveling taught me that you make friends in seconds because everyone is in the same boat, if you are in hostels then expect to be invited out on many nights out/days out etc. Its all part of the fun. As for places to stay in leicester, your spoilt for choice tbf and im sure some of the guys on here know of places to stay or even have a place you can stay. Good luck mate, youll love it, best thing I ever did! As for work PM me i know of a few restaurant things.
Shrenchel Posted 29 April 2010 Posted 29 April 2010 When you're in Zimbabwe, telling girls they look like a million dollars probably won't go down too well.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 April 2010 Author Posted 29 April 2010 Cheer's Ajcw i'm not to keen on Restuarant work but if i'm desperate i'll do anything....i mean anything. Shrenchel i think i'll avoid speaking to anyone in Zimbabwe as i don't think i will fit in to well with my pasty white skin
Monk Posted 29 April 2010 Posted 29 April 2010 I've just come back from a rail trip across europe in a rather usual way. Highly recommend you check out Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb). Sarajevo was pretty cool, worth a few days. Obviously theres also the tourist areas - Pisa Venice and Florence were each worth a day or two. Don't avoid speaking to people in Zimbabwe! You'll be missing out! In the UK I reckon you should at least visit Edinburgh... my favorite place

I'm going to Pisa, Florence and Venice last time i was overseas i was 17 and i went to Pisa and Florence. I'm crapping myself about going to Zimbabwe but that was part of the attraction of going, getting out of the comfort zone etc.
ozleicester Posted 29 April 2010 Posted 29 April 2010 If you are going to Nigeria im sure i can help. I have hundreds of contacts in the government and royal family, unfortunately most of them have died (leaving me an enormous sum of money), perhaps you could pick it up for me? All the best Roo...you will have a ball.

If you have a spare 3-4 days while there take a bus to Ploce (2hrs) and then the train to Sarajevo (4hrs). Really good train ride and well off the gringo trail. Also hear Mostar is worth exploring too. Zimbabwe is certainly daring, but I'd just say the travel basics apply -don't walk alone at night -stay in a good hotel, use the safe -don't carry a lot of cash with you -don't display obvious signs of wealth - watches, flashy bags etc. I'm sure you'll find most of the people really happy just to have some tourist money coming into the country. Where are you hoping to work in the UK and doing what?
Lillehamring Posted 29 April 2010 Posted 29 April 2010 remember to give us a shout when you are in oslo - god tur!

If you are planning on staying in hostels then I'd advise to book early as they fill up pretty damn quick these days. If you go to Dublin stay at Gogartys hostel. They also have great single and double rooms at good rates.
