Fosse Fox Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Although a technically accomplished player (by Championship standards) I've always felt that Matty wasn't cut out for the rough and tumble of the English game. May be more suited to the Spanish second division (or a season or two in La Primera Liga with a small, newly promoted club). Sadly, that thinly disguised act of wanton thuggery three months ago has completely shattered his fragile self confidence and hastened his departure date.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Absolutely NOT! When he came on against Middlesbrough, he looked like he didn't have the confidence to have a go that he had before the injury... understandable really considering his lack of match practice, but in a play-off semi-final, we need strikers who aren't afraid to have a go in half-decent positions.
Guest Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 On the bench at best - wouldn't worry me not to play him at all. Waggers is better and if he's not working we'd need someone of a different ilk. Hope Gallagher and Dyer both get to start with Waggers.
okie fox Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Fryatt is good, but it is too soon to start him in either leg. If he were fully fit, he would have got more minutes against Middlesborough. The team has done well during his absence so there is no reason to drop Waghorn or Vaughn. Bring Fryatt on near the end if we need a goal.
MrSpaM Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 He didn't look 100% on sunday, he was getting more stuck in the longer the game went on though, plus i think the fact he was playing out of position didn't help. I'd start with Waghorn and Vaughan on current form though, can't see us starting with Yann up front again. Think listening to the interviews after the middlesborough match it was kinda implyed he'd be a sub in the play offs anyway.
marbelladave Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 it was nice to see him have a run out in a game of little consequence that we were going to win anyway, starting in a playoff - No! Pearson will not change things about that much given where we are, so I expect to see a midfield of Spearing, King and Wellens with Dyer on the left and Waghorn and Vaughan up front. Lots of pace but without Gallagher not much guile. Mmmm...

I'd go with Waggy and Vaughn up front, tried and tested and should bang at least a goal in each !
dogadug Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Keep Vaughan and Waghorn up front. Waghorn is strong, quick, determined and can hold the ball up well and Vaughan is quick, wins a surprising amount of headers and is always looking to make a run to split the opposition defence. I'm not saying that Fryatt doesn't have any of these qualities, but with him only just coming back from a horrific injury, we won't see the best of him till after pre-season, however don't rule him out on coming on at Wembley and scoring the winning goal!

Not as much as those who think that Matty's broken jaw was the result of an accidental challenge . Much as I liked Matty at this level I think that he will certainly be surplus to requirements if we get promotion* and will possibly go in the January window if we don't. *I don't now what odds the bookies are quoting on our promotion but 11/2 would seem about right to me.
maddog Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 No, not after only 30 mins of match time in a few months, and we have been magnificent without Fryatt in the side anyway, perhaps we are a faster side and have a bit more spring in our step without Fryatt. We certainly haven't missed him since he was injured because we have been awesome mostly. I would fancy him off the bench again Sunday though, whether we are struggling or winning comfortably. He could get us a goal. It would be unfair to drop someone else for Fryatt when they've played so well without him.
Mee Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Defiantly not at Walkers, to risky, But a hell of a good option if we need a goal

Even in games we were winning, Waghorn's endeavour was matched only by his comparatively unimaginative movement. Waghorn's a really decent player at this level, but Fryatt is, in my view, a cut above. In those 4 games we lost in a row, we were crying out for somebody to be getting on Howard's knock downs. Other than that, I agree entirely with everything you said. He shouldn't be starting. But in Nige we trust.
Criggers Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Speaking from experience I dont think Matty would be too apprehensive about going into challenges when he can see what is coming, it's the ones coming over his shoulder that will likely other him. There is going to be a bit of nervousness (is that even a word) for someone thats had a fractured jaw, it's natural. Can't see him starting in important games like these when we need an unnervous start to matches. Imagine if he got flawed in the first few mins of a game, he'd probably be shook up for more time than the rest of the team would be able to cater for, with a spare striker wandering around aimlessly. Saying that, I havent seen him training so who knows. Mind you there is always a difference in trainig with your own players and then having some Cardiff player running full steam at you...
Tommeh Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Nah I don't expect him to be anywhere near starting, stick with the tried and tested front 3 of Lloyd Waggy and Gallagher. Then the 3 midfielders can all operate centrally too. Fryatt, Dany N and Vaughan to come off the bench are 3 stunning options at this level.
samjohnson Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Not just yet. Keep with Waghorn + Other, then use Fryatt as a sub around 60th min... I, personally, dont think he's ready to jump right in the deep end just yet.

Ozwin Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 He may not be ready fitness wise just yet but mentally he's gonna want to make an impact and make up for the 2/3 months he's been out. I wouldn't bet against him scoring in either leg.
