Cropwellfox Posted 9 June 2010 Posted 9 June 2010 Hope Gerry does well for himself. Never seemed to really establish himself with Pearson, with Powell seemingly more of a coaching presence as the season went on. Seem to remember that we're in a reserve league next season - bigger coaching role for Powell perhaps, therefore a positive move all round.
whitlock Posted 9 June 2010 Posted 9 June 2010 Not sure I understand the 'pull' factor towards this job for Taggart, I'd have held on for a managers job of his own if I was him.Dickov's going no-where in management I predict, Taggart would do better. Good luck to Tags anyway, and Good luck to Oldham with Dickov as manager I guess that Taggart saw this as a step upto management. Assistant manager is a step up from reserve team manager. Alot of "number 2s" end up becoming managers, i guess thats what Taggs wants.
Jimmy Posted 9 June 2010 Author Posted 9 June 2010 with Dickov being player-manager Taggs will do most of the work I'd imagine
Thracian Posted 10 June 2010 Posted 10 June 2010 Throttles youngsters who step out of line. Did a single Reserves team player graduate through to the first team during his time here, Hard to say what his purpose was given that the reserves team seemed inconsequential. One wage less.

One wage less. its job was to give people who weren't in the 1st team so playing time in effect he was just a coach here as the reserves had no real fixture list, we're supposed to be getting a reserve team back with the old academy boys graduating to it
Uncle Albert Posted 10 June 2010 Posted 10 June 2010 Shame, I fancied Gerry establishing himself at Leicester and moving up towards the first team, still best of luck to the bloke. Like a few people have said in this thread, can see it being mainly Tags doing the managing at Oldham, Dickov won't help but play himself. I'm sure I have read Dickov turned down a chance to play at New York Red Bulls next year to take this job instead, why give up the possible chance of playing with Henry?
Mendi Posted 11 June 2010 Posted 11 June 2010 how will you remember Taggart at LCFC My brother is a oldham fan and he thinks it gamble getting Dickov in as a player and manager.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 11 June 2010 Posted 11 June 2010 Looking forwards to the first Oldham playing stepping out of line and seeing how they handle it. Dickov "do as I say, not as I do, mate"; Tags "oops, call the ambulance". Good luck to them both. Taggs will alway be a legend, Dickov remembered for that goal against Leeds in the 4-0 if nothing else, although that's being a bit unfair to him.

Taggs will alway be a legend, Dickov remembered for that goal against Leeds in the 4-0 if nothing else, although that's beeing a bit unfair to him. People are far too unfair on Dickov. He always gave 100% in both his spells at the club. It's a shame everybody seems to have forgotten the 37 goals he scored for us between 2002 and 2004, goals which we couldn't have done without in the promotion race and relegation battles we had. As for all this Taggart doing all the management nonsense, do you really think Dickov is willingly going to play second fiddle or think Taggart is going to act like a tw*t and try and undermine and usurp Dickov by trying to dictate things? You never know people, it might just end up being a normal, relatively successful manager-assistant relationship, crazy I know.
Fox You Forest Posted 11 June 2010 Posted 11 June 2010 It wouldn't surprise me if we ended up drawing Oldham in the League Cup now.
General Smuts Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Brilliant news. Good luck to them both. I'll definately keep an eye on Oldham next season now.
