crafty fox Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 anyone got todays merc yet just seen one of there boards outside a paper shop but couldnt stop, the headline was something like " new players arrive at city" i imagine this is just the trialists but not sure.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Chris Powell is quoted as saying that he expects there to be two or three new faces coming in, but there's no clues as to who they might be and the Merc just then lists everyone we've already been linked with (no new names). I don't think we should read much into it but he also says something along the lines of that there may be people who have played regularly that will move on, but I think that's just in the context of there being some who haven't played regularly that may get a chance. There's not really anything of any consequence in it
Jimbo Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I don't like when he says "there will be one or two who have played regularly for us who may not be with us" unless he means Oakley and Neilson!!
davieG Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Leicester City coach Chris Powell believes there will be new faces coming to the club in the next few weeks. City returned from their pre-season tour of Slovenia on Sunday and new manager Paulo Sousa will continue to assess his squad when they play a friendly against Rotherham tonight. Powell said the squad does need strengthening and that there could be movement in and out of the club as City prepare for their Championship challenge. City, who play League Two side Rotherham at the Don Valley Stadium (7.45), have been linked with a number of players. Sousa has expressed an interest in Spanish midfielder Andrea Orlandi, who is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at Swansea City but may still re-sign for the Swans, and former Barnsley midfielder Hugo Colace. The Argentinean is also a free agent. Sousa is looking predominantly at free agents unless deals to sell DJ Campbell to Blackpool for £1.5million or Steve Howard to Huddersfield Town for £300,000 are completed, and both strikers impressed Sousa in Slovenia. Powell is expecting there to be some movement between now and the start of the season on August 7. "The squad is quite light in terms of numbers but I am sure that is something the manager will look to change," he said. "I wouldn't be surprised if we saw two or three new faces come in. "I think the manager is looking at what we have got and areas we need to strengthen. "The manager will now look at who he feels will be of use to him and who won't be, and that is his prerogative. It has to be. He has inherited a new team. "I am sure there will be one or two who will get a new chance, there will be one or two who have played regularly for us who may not be with us, and there will certainly be one or two coming in. "There will be changes and that is quite normal under a new manager." City looked at three trialists while in Slovenia, and Powell said one, Slovenian striker Leon Crncic, had particularly impressed. "We had a young striker from Slovenia who looked good in training and scored a goal in the second friendly, against his club team, NK Aluminij," he added. "He spent last season on loan at Atalanta as well. He is quite an interesting player, but I think Paulo will tell you if there is anything long-term and whether he comes over here and has a look at us in our normal surroundings. "But he did particularly well and we have to wait and see if he earns a long-term deal at Leicester." Sousa has also been linked with raids on former club Swansea for midfielder Darren Pratley and defender Ashley Williams, but both seem highly unlikely. Pratley has only one year left on his contract but Swansea turned down a £1.5m bid for the 25-year-old from Nottingham Forest in January, while Williams signed a new three-year deal only last season and is valued in a similar way to former Cardiff centre-back Roger Johnson, who eventually joined Birmingham City for £5m last season.
Callabinho Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Id be supised if Matty Oakley stays, and Big Stevie may be moving on also. App Castro is interested in the move so too is Orlandi but id like too see one or two proven players in, like Colace maybe ? If and a big IF we get some investment, then maybe the likes of Pratley wot be so far-out ! lets just wait an see.
s11nny Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Well Colace is now no longer an option as he has just signed a new contract with Barnsley. Its a shame he would of been a great signing. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/barnsley/8838355.stm
s11nny Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 As for Powell's comments on changes in the current setup ( '' I am sure there will be one or two who will get a new chance, there will be one or two who have played regularly for us who may not be with us '') As long as Sousa leaves Hobbs, Berner, King and Fryatt how they are in the current setup I am fine with any changes he makes
