stever Posted 30 July 2010 Posted 30 July 2010 Bristol City have signed England goalkeeper David James following his release from Portsmouth. James, who turns 40 next week and lives in Exeter, has signed a one-year deal at Ashton Gate, but has the option of staying with the club for another year. "I've had offers to stay in the Premier League but it is more important that I play football for the right club and be a family man," said James. He will be introduced to City fans at Saturday's friendly with Blackpool. SOURCE Any thoughts? Personally I can't see the logic behind a move to a club that is in the same division as the club that he left? Granted he will probably be the regular keeper all season but I still don't get the move! A final hurrah at a club that may get promotion under an extremely goos manager? or is there more to the deal than BCFC are letting on? Has been offered a coaching role that he wanted at Pompy (not manager like he wanted obviously)? Hmmm. Interesting to see what happens this season....

James has a house in Exeter I beleive and didn't want to move. Offers in Prem didn't guarantee first team football. Bristol should guarantee him a decent pay cheque every month (where as with Pompy you may get paid, you may not?) Bit if coup for City though, fans are pinching/creaming themselves this morning.

I drove past Exeter and Bristol this morning. It's still a flippin' long drive.
Stevosevic Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Considering a footballer probably spends no more than 4 hours at the training ground each day, then a bit of extra travelling time wouldn't make much difference to them.
DeclanMC Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 I realise we haven't got a pot to piss in, but should we have been in for him at all? I realise his decision was based on where his home was, but hypothetically, could we have got him do you think?
