Birch To Stay At City

Posted on: Wed 11 Aug 2010Leicester City Football Club are delighted to announce that club ambassador, Alan Birchenhall, has agreed to sign a new one year fixed term contract.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding 'The Birch's' future but everyone is extremely pleased that he will stay at the club.

Leicester City Chairman, Milan Mandaric, said:

"Birch has agreed to extend to his contract, and will be assisting the commercial department in a greater capacity.

We are delighted to retain the services of Birch and I'm sure this will help the club by adding even greater support to our commercial and PR activities. He has been a great loyal servant to the football club and we are delighted that we have been able to conclude this agreement."

The Birch himself was thrilled to remain involved with the club:

"I would like to thank the club for overturning the retirement issue in allowing me to continue in my role as Club Ambassador.

I would also like to thank the fans, who have, as always, been brilliant.

Saturday will still be an emotional day for me as it is great to remain a part of the Leicester City family.

I am now looking forward to the supporters getting right behind Paulo in helping the club get back to the Premier League where we belong."

So basically the club have caved in to fan pressure.

I think compromise is the best description. I year fixed contract so no precedent for employing over 65s, Mandaric excluded of course tongue.pngand it sounds like he's got a bit of a proper job.

I'll post you the email I sent to Hoos by the way.

Hi Lee.

I have had many messages of concern regarding, 'Alan Birchenall's supposed departure from Leicester City.'

Alan Birchenall has been at the club for 40 years, as I'm sure your aware. It is unfair that down to cost cutting he is going to be driven out of the clubs over money. He is a legend for what he has done for the Club, as a player and a ambassador. His charity work also has been excellent over the last 30 years, and has given the club alot of publicity, surely this isn't a bad thing. His work spans across the playing squad too, he is about as valuable asset to Leicester City as a first team player.

Many of our fans from the message boards have requested going to the FSF (Footballer Supporters Federation) as it is a joke. If you want to raise more cash, and cover the costs of Birchenalls contract, you should put Season Ticket prices at the most £2, that would cover his £30,000 yearly earnings. We have just signed a new player (Moreno) for £330,000. You give the manager what he wants, but ignore the fans. It is extremely frustrating, all the rumours about a 'takeover' and the circumstances that we lost Nigel Pearson, Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh. I'm beginning to lose faith in the board, yourself and Milan.

Give the fans what they want for once. I look forward to your response Lee.

Regards,

David Mee.

English was never a strong subject of mine, dont cut me down too for the ST bit up £2. ;) Was trying to find an example i could use.

If I'm being honest though, I wouldn't have paid £2 extra a year to continue to suffer his half time entertainment.

Yeah mate, just said it to try win Hoos over. Pointless idea anyway as it'll never happen.

It's not about his half time entertainment for me, It's the fact that how much for the club he has done, and his charity work.

But if Season Ticket's go up 2 quid next year. Don't send the bill to me! ;)

The bit about Moreno and not giving the fans what they want: I have no idea whether I speak for the majority here but I'd like any available funds to be invested in the squad and not some bloke who does the half-time 'entertainment', which is crap anyway.

I'm worried, the club have made a sensible decision that seems to benefit everybody, not seen that before.

It doesn't benefit me.
