Hack Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Hi all, Long term viewer of the site from Australia and Leicester fan for many years. I think Sven was a G-d send and great decision by the Thai owners. Pity about Sousa but he blew the opportunity given to him. Loving the new direction of the players being linked as well as signed. (loans giving us the chance to try before you buy is also a major side benefit). Naughton and Davies are exceptional pickups for a chapionship team. I agree with those who are describing it as a mid table Prem defence now. But the one piece I feel we are missing is a true midfield general. I think we have good quality central midfielders but not sure any of Oakley, Wellens or King are in the mold of a (all the players I mention are not who I think we could or should get, just comparing what they do and mean for their teams) Cesc Fabergas, Michael Essien, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Charlie Adam and Michael Bradley the young American or someone Sven has coached Gerado Torrado. Even Danny Murphy. I believe one of the major reasons Blackpool were promoted was Charlie Adam and the role he plays for them. Look at Liverpool ever since Xabi Alonso left. He drove the team all things good came from him. Look at Aston Villa once Gareth Barry left. Great quality team in many areas of the field but no real general. Newcastle were clearly a Permier league team playing in the Championship last year, but they had Barton and Nolan playing this role bossing both the opposition midfield and controlling what and how their teams play. Look at QPR this year and what Taarabt does for them principly in attack in a Muzzy Izzet way. Think back to the great days when MON had Muzzy and also Lennon running the show. A player like Taarabt is the type we could definitely get so I'm not expecting us to get a world class player but more a centre midfielder who clearly would be comfortable playmaking in the Premier League. Perhaps Abe or even Andy King could become that for us bu to this stage haven't quite proven it to the level I'm talking about, or the coach hasn't used them in this manner. But with a solid squad now including a really first rate defence, the piece we are missing if we want to go up is that midfield general playmaker. Would love your feedback on players you think fit this mould that we could realistically get on loan or buy and would be willing to come. Aaron Ramsay or Delph on loan or Torrado would be the sort of player I think we should go for. Love your player options and thoughts on my theory.
MattyFromLE Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Agree! Although I feel King should be given a different role, for example all of our attacking play coming through him. I think more importantly than a midfielder we need a proven goal scorer, if we've had so many chances to score in the first 5/6 games; it ain't our midfield that's the problem, it's the people up front not knocking them in...

It is the midfields problem in not delivering the chances. Yes the strikers need to take more of the chances provided, but clearly the better the quality of chance the more goals your stikers will score. There aren't many Torres's or Tevez's which means a great midfield can make your stikers better and more effective.
demon_dog Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 im sure sven realises this and has a plan In Sven we trust.
bluebeau Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Chris Commons sheepshaggers attacking midfielder & ex Fo--st. Damned good player imo, just what we need at City. He scores some great goals as well as driving through midfield & creating chances for the strikers. Also very much liked the guy who played no.16 for S----horpe, can't think of his name, but he had a cracking game against us & controlled the midfield , also very vocal, something we need at City. There are some good players around outside of the Prem.

Josh Wright. He impressed me too, would pass the ball and move intelligently into an open space to receive it back again.

Lord Fox Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Beckham Oh dear.. I hope that was a joke ....we all know it will never happen.
Jakemoore Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I think you lot have mentioned some very worthy Championship players, however I feel like we should be looking to sign Premierleague players only.

Your right. I did mention Danny Murphy out of the Premier league as someone who fits the bill. Not the right side of 30 but the right type. Who would you recommend. remebering that we beleive this player/role is the most iportant element to getting us up and staying there
