Have a Go!

Should we shoot more? We have so many players we describe as 'technically gifted' but they all seem reluctant to just work a yard and shoot. Too many angled balls into the box which Waghorn will never win. Why don't Gallagher et. al. just mix it up a bit and have a go from the edge of the box every now and then? On a side note I thought his decision making wasn't great today. The few times he did shoot he had a better option and it seemed a bit like he was frustrated because he knew he had better opportunities to do so for.

All gally did yesterday was shoot aimlessly from outside the box! Finishing wasnt good enough yesterday, hopefully Sven has a trick or two up his sleeve for that.

"why don't we shoot more... although I didn't like it when we shot today"

Superb

The decision making at times was horrific. The few occasions we actually shot from range there were much better options out wide. But then when the better option was to shoot we'd trying to walk the ball into the net and would just lose the ball.

The problem is we can't in most cases see whether it's clear to shoot or not, I actually commented on how good King is at not wasting chances with pointless shooting just because the crowd shouts 'shoot'. One example in the second half yesterday when he went to shoot, saw the path to goal was covered, did a turn and placed a pass out to Naughton on the wing who put in a decent cross unfortunately we have hardly anyone in the box attacking crosses who can actually head the ball.

Sooner that happens than the current Gallagher and Waghorn rugby type conversions.

Football's an easy game isn't it, especially when you get a view of the pitch from up in the stand. Just can't see why players are paid so much.

These are things that separate the world class players from the championship ones. Surely it should be more of a case of praising players like King that as DavieG says can and do do it.

As somebody above said, it is all about decision making. Whether the pass is the best option, or the shot. As soon as we get that nailed down, i think we will be alright, but in my opinion, we need a fair bit of work on it.

True.

However I think the big problem was that after the first 15 minutes or so neither Wagorn or Howard were showing for the ball and shots from distance became the default option.

This was just as bad when we lost Howard and Gallagher pushed up alongside Waghorn. For me Gallagher has no business trying to lead the line, he simply does not have the instincts nor the quickness of thought to be a predator in the box.

He is at his best playing around the edges of the box and it is from these areas thar he scores his goals. Sure he was ineffective yesterday and made some poor choices but he was not helped by the lack of movement ahead of him. Poor game for him, maybe he was trying too hard, certainly did his share tracking back though he remains weak in the tackle on occasions.

Shoot more? We've had 167 attempts on goal this season, more than anyone else in the Championship. Converting the chances we make is a far bigger problem than having a crack at goal in the first place.
