davieG Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Well we aren't expanding it 'now'. I guess Top and co feel confident about getting us into the Premier League where we did regularly get 'fullish' houses and I'm sure there were plenty of times we could have sold more away tickets. I'd also like to think there's an outside chance that they might do something about the match day pricing with a bigger stadium but I appreciate that's a long shot.
Jackirius Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 I think we would be wanting to attract much more international Under 21/19 matches.
davieG Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 I think we would be wanting to attract much more international Under 21/19 matches. Hmm I think they'd need a lot more than that besides I'm sure the FA move those games around to give many clubs a shot at holding them and to enable fans from all over to get to see the games.

I suppose so. Where has this come from that we are expanding the stadium? Or is it just another assumption on something said ages ago?

Guest Bilo Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Spend the money that might be spent on increasing the ground's capacity on two things. 1) Lowering ticket prices so we can begin to fill the 32,000 seats we have. 2) Give Eriksson the money to put together a team capable of bringing the success that will fill the stadium. 32,000 is more than ample for us until we're a top 6 Premier League side. And I'm not holding my breath for that.
!-LCFC-! Posted 31 October 2010 Author Posted 31 October 2010 we will soon be a top 6.. a few years i think then we will be up there with man'u,chelsea, arsenal, tottenham, man'c
dave the caveman Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 32,000 is more than ample for us until we're a top 6 Premier League side. And I'm not holding my breath for that. That's what I was thinking. Our first season back in the prem (whenever that may be) will probably see a solid 30k average (anyone recall what it was last time?) but once the novelty wears off I really can't see us attracting more than 26 - 28k for 14 of the 19 games. To make expanding worthwhile we've really got to be playing in Europe, and while you can't fault the owners for that kind of ambition, I can't help but feel we'd be better off investing that money in the squad for now. Of course, if the owners have got the cash, do both by all means

IF we get to the Premier League a bigger ground should give them more flexibility with the ticket pricing and when we were there in 2003/4 most games we got over 30K, I guess it's also a status thing as well, not that I'm fussed either way I'd sooner the the stadium debt cleared.
1964FOX Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Obviously we would need to be in the premier to get a big enough crowd to warrant the bigger capacity, but as it was an option that goes with the stadium when they bought it you can't blame them for being anbitious and stating they intend to do it at some point.

JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Also should England get 2018 the East Midlands will need a 40,000 plus stadium. That dream for Nottingham is never coming off.

It's a vicious cycle, bigger stadium = bigger stadium debt = increased match ticket prices.
Mack Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 There is no point. This was probably something said in passing by the new owners before they understood the club properly. Wont happen.

That dream for Nottingham is never coming off. think you hit the nail on the head , there. If we get the world cup then we can get some extra funding to increase the stadium capacity... world cup footy in Leicester. That would be worth coming home for!
fox123 Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 If it was to be increased it would be nice to hold large music events etc and get additional revenue from that.
JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 leicesters bid got rejected from the off..... with our council we was never going to get it... Yes it did, but Nottingham's bid was based on council money, with 30%cuts leading up to 2015 where do you propose the EM stadium will come from now? It's between us and Derby to whichever one of us goes up first wins.
Webbo Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 If it was to be increased it would be nice to hold large music events etc and get additional revenue from that. I don't think there's a big enough market for that in Leicester. I know the Tigers lost money when hosted Will Young and James Morrison and Derby only just broke even on the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

I believe FIFA can pick us as hosts and can stipulate changes to the pre-selected venues if they're not happy with them, I don't think anything is cast in stone.
