JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 I believe FIFA can pick us as hosts and can stipulate changes to the pre-selected venues if they're not happy with them, I don't think anything is cast in stone.

Wymsey Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 If it was to be increased it would be nice to hold large music events etc and get additional revenue from that. It was reported ages ago in the Leic Mercury that our stadium is not too 'strong' to hold music venues. That's why they go to Villa Park or the Richo. That why that Status Quo thing a few years ago was cancelled - due to safety reasons. B++++cks i know.
Spudulike Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Two of the other shortlisted venues have problems. Plymouth isn't likely to happen and Bristol City have hit a massive stumbling block with their proposed new stadium as the site has been recommended for town/village green status !! A big legal mess that will probably still be rumbling on after 2018. Always going to be a problem when choosing cities that haven't already got a stadium in place. Nottingham was only selected because of supposed connections with Robin Hood (false) and a second rate 1970's Tunes advert. Same thing happened with the renaming of East Midlands airport some years ago.

OMG It's fookin FIFA they can do what they like, it's their tournament. What they going to do when there are no stadiums in Plymouth, Bristol and Nottingham
m00nie Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 OMG It's fookin FIFA they can do what they like, it's their tournament. What they going to do when there are no stadiums in Plymouth, Bristol and Nottingham they dont need to do anything.. they didnt just select the ones they needed.. they chose 17 stadiums and only need 12 i think it is.. so even if all 3 of them dont make it theres still 2 extra to chose from....
davieG Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 im pretty sure they cant... the grounds they selected when we lost out was the ones that included the extra grounds should some not make the grade/be acceptable.. we ddnt even get past the first stage... I'm pretty sure I read that Fifa have the right to veto certain stadium choices and pick others if they're not happy with what's on offer. That's not to say they will and it's a massive long shot anyway but that's what I heard.
Corky Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 There is no point in expanding the stadium. 32,000 is fine as a capacity, even for the Premier League.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Should have built a dome really, kept the atmosphere and no capacity increase talk. If only.
foxaholic Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 That's what I was thinking. Our first season back in the prem (whenever that may be) will probably see a solid 30k average (anyone recall what it was last time?) but once the novelty wears off I really can't see us attracting more than 26 - 28k for 14 of the 19 games. To make expanding worthwhile we've really got to be playing in Europe, and while you can't fault the owners for that kind of ambition, I can't help but feel we'd be better off investing that money in the squad for now. Of course, if the owners have got the cash, do both by all means Everybody seems to forget we averaged 30000 in the championship under Mickey Adams
rabbid Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Spend the money that might be spent on increasing the ground's capacity on two things. 1) Lowering ticket prices so we can begin to fill the 32,000 seats we have. 2) Give Eriksson the money to put together a team capable of bringing the success that will fill the stadium. 32,000 is more than ample for us until we're a top 6 Premier League side. And I'm not holding my breath for that. try

I remember reading that a condition of the bidding process is that each city individually signs a contract for liability. So if England win the 2018 bid and Nottingham failed to build the stadium in time, FIFA could sue Nottingham city council with council tax payers picking up the tab.

The Doctor Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 OMG It's fookin FIFA they can do what they like, it's their tournament. What they going to do when there are no stadiums in Plymouth, Bristol and Nottingham give the WC to russia?
Kitchandro Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Everybody seems to forget we averaged 30000 in the championship under Mickey Adams Yes but as previously mentioned wafter the novelty of top flight football wares off we will be getting under that. Even if we were in Europe (extremely unlikely for quite a while) we would only be maybe get around 40,000 and that wouldn only be for the European games themselves. I'd hate to have loads of empty seats like those Chavs
ibbosuk Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 whats the point?? No point, if they want to spend money on the stadium they need to buy it so we dont have that massive debt hanging over our heads.
