Loan Signings

We now have I think 6 players in on loan (include Kirkland), and can use 5 maximum in any matchday squad

I am sure we are all excited to see players of this quality in the team and we can see how all, especially Naughton and Davies, have made a difference to results, and style of play since early October.

However despite this short term help and excitement is this actually a long term hindrance to our progress?

If we can't sign these players at the end of loan spells (either because of our finance, the sums requested or parent club unwillingness to sell) then we are either a) in another cycle of new short term loans or b) back to the permanent squad.

In other words, any progress now might be misleading, and not representative of the ability of our existing squad to get us where we would like to be.

Of course this is a major departure from previous loan strategies, such as under Pearson where the likes of Cleverley, Waghorn and Mark Davies...young up and coming players...came in for the mututal benefit of both clubs. Of course we managed to sign Hobbs and Waghorn off the back of these, and may sign some of the current six as well, who knows.

Am I alone though in being uneasy, and fearing a false dawn?

Following on from that, how does a manager keep current permanent squad players pushed out of the 11 or 18 happy? Sell too many in January, and you are short if the loan signings go back. Keep them and they can't get any football. Not all will be as readily loanable as Fryatt is.

Are 6 loan signings a recipe for an unhappy squad?

how many more times, vitor doesn't count in the loan players in matchday squad limit. Naughton, Davies, Cunningham, Bednar and Kirkland do, that's 5 and everythings hunky-dory.

and 5 of the 6 are defenders/goalkeeper, and all will be/are first choice

Don't think I have seen that at any club before.

Potentially this makes the come down at the end of the loan periods worse?

fine I'm not worried about having 6 and only playing 5 or having 6 and being able to play all 6

It's the sheer quantity of the loans and the aftermath that I am posting about

I would be very surprised if some if not all (With the exception of Cunnigham) don't become permanent.

Sure. Any three say would cost, what? £10-15m? maybe £7-10m?

Can we ban people that mention to 5 player rule again?

Apologies. I hope you get the wider issue I am getting at

signed from abroad, only domestic loans count and if anyone asks about the 5 loanee rule and vitor again i will find someone to hunt them down and kill them, are we clear?

edit:

anyway by the sounds of things bednar, kirkland & possibly davies are on their way out on permanant deals in jan, naughton i would think would be available given how little he's played for spurs since joining them, vitor is through to the summer so i would expect it's only cunningham we need to worry about in jan (or is his loan through till the end of the season as well?) and with berner we have competent backup.

Because he spuffed in your eyes and made you unble to read the 4,567,876 posts about the fact we are allowed 5 domestic loans in the match day squad at one particular time.

What's the other option, continue with the shilo that we started the season with?

If I never see Weale/Morrisson/Neilson/Lamay/Berner/Fryatt and Howard play gain I won't be that upset.

Without Weale, Berner, Howard and maybe Fryatt, i agree

I'm not sure I understand peoples problems with this. When Sven was brought in and after the start we've had, the primary objective has to have been survival. He's brought in the players to do this and so far they're on course. I for one want to wait until january before making too many judgements. If we can get a couple of the loanees to extend for the season or in on perms (Davies, Naughton, Cunningham and maybe Kirkland would be fantastic) then that would be great but this is going to depend where we are in the table in january and toward the end of the season.

I'm just grateful we're making short term progress and securing safety this year would be fine. I'm hoping the next 2 transfer windows are where things are going to start taking shape for next season. :scarf:
