What would you recommend from that link? I'd need something to pay all the bills and also 30 pairs of shoes a month for the missus. If you could answer with a link entitled 'My Link' that would be great. kthxbye.

On all the laptops I had the plug couldn't be soldered back onto the motherboard, I even one to a specialist soldering company and they said it would be cheaper to just buy a new Laptop.

Do you mean the DC jack or something else? I can't imagine why it would ever not be possible to replace a DC jack in a laptop. I replaced the one in my Acer laptop by myself just a few months ago. It took a few minutes of basic, easy soldering and cost a few quid for the part, and that was it job done.

I've built systems for years so got a fair amount of knowledge. I wouldn't particularly buy Sony Vaio unless you can get one for a good price (See my link below) generally your paying for one thing the Sony badge on the front. Yeah they look sleek, but so do most these days . Avoid Pc world , Currys, Comet etc unless they have £400 quid off they might just be in touch with reality. From experience Dell are the best value. I got a Vostro about 3 years ago for rougly £700, it still now blinds anything in Pc world and Currys for about £400/500. It's still going perfectly today.

You may want to try Overclockers http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=959&catid=1828&sortby=priceAsc

That Vaio is a powerful little unit and not a bad price either for what you get. It would be fine for basic home user tasks. Don't expect to run any demanding games unless your looking well over £1000.

Yea the DC jack thing, in each case it was soldered straight onto the motherboard, I did try soldering it back on and on one it worked again for about a week, took it to a professional solderer (is that a word?) and they said they wouldn't be able to get a strong enough join on it again and to buy a new motherboard (there was no spare part for just the DC jack bit). The motherboard cost more than a new laptop so I didn't bother.

I hate the plastic on windows laptops anyway, nasty and flimsy, aluminium is way nicer and doesn't melt your lap.
