Finnegan Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 You couldn't be more wrong. Better analogy: the Vaio is a Harley and the Mac is most definitely the segway.
MC Prussian Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 You couldn't be more wrong. Better analogy: the Vaio is a Honda and the Mac is most definitely a Triumph. Get yer facts straight.
Zingari Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Depends what ya budget is/ waht ya want it to do. I recommend ebuyer. yes , there has been some excellent deals here recently and on ebay deal of the day ( which often is the same outlet)
Finnegan Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Alex. Exactly the sort of delusional reply that I love about Mac users. Face it, nobody does Geek-chic like Mac fanbois.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 You couldn't be more wrong. Better analogy: the Vaio is a Harley and the Mac is most definitely the segway. Nah. You can do all kinds of things on a Harley you cannot do on a Segway.
MC Prussian Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Alex. Exactly the sort of delusional reply that I love about Mac users. Face it, nobody does Geek-chic like Mac fanbois. You don't know nothing about what it's like using a Mac unless you've tried it. There's nothing bad about being a Mac user, you know. But hey, happy .
Zingari Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 does anyone know why my acer aspire notepad has suddenly stopped connecting to the wireless router ? when i try to connect it just keeps saying there are "no wireless networks in range" but the other one connects ok i was going to pop it into the local computer shop but if anyone knows if there may be a quick fix ? i've tried the repair on the right click options but that's no good thanks in advance

Zingari Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Tried the old switch off/switch on trick with both the router and the laptop? yes ,tried that a few times , and the reset button on the router, but i've deduced there must be a signal ok from the router as my other wireless pc connects ok thanks anyway

That could well be it. Your Acer is like a Kia.
Zingari Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Have you checked the oil? That could well be it. Your Acer is like a Kia. no but i tried jump starting it by dragging it down the street tied to the back of the car
hairy Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 PC World and Currys are doing trade in with your old one up to £100 off, which is a bit crap
Daggers Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 What a load of bollocks. Has anyone here ridden a Harley? The Viao is Royal Enfield, it's cheaper and works well but lacks any impressive features and is highly likely to need constant care to ensure it runs. If you're lucky you'll still be content using it in a couple of years but it will seem piss slow compared to everything else on the road. The MacBook Pro is a VFR1200F. It goes like a Market Street hooker finishing off a local politician, it will maintain it's looks longer than Felicity Kendall and you'll still be treasuring it in years to come unless you are tempted by some feature you don't need on a newer model. No viruses, no worms, no trojans - can run assorted operating systems in tandem - fast as fvck and it looks bloody good. Unless you are running Linux on a PC you don't have a say in this because you are just a laptop drunk driver looking for an accident on the internet superhighway.

I have been resisting one for years out of my love for my Powerbook G4, but finally the fact I cannot play HD video is pissing me off. Still 6 1/2 years is not a bad run..
Houdini Logic Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 I've had my Vaio for 6 years and it is absolutley bulletproof. People asking why you'd spend more money on the same 'spec' laptop need to realise that it's not just the components that are important, but the way it is built. If we're sticking with analogies then it's like the difference between driving a sports car built by engineers or driving the same sports car built by gypsys. That is where Mac have got a great selling point - limited models that they have spent a good time developing/constructing. If I met someone who didn't have an interest in computers and also had a good sum of money then I may consider recommending a Mac to them. But anyone who wants to use a real OS, configure their own setup, not get told off for not being the administrator ON THEIR OWN COMPUTER, be able to right click, be able to use ALL software, doesn't want to pay for a service pack, become a gamer, have sensible (modular) support costs and doesn't want to look like a cretin - buy a Windows Laptop
Rocket-Ron Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Just get this http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/holiday-beats/envy14_beats.html
danny. Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 A MacBook will work out cheaper in the long run. To Illustrate: I had a series of 3 PC laptops, all cheapish ones (around £400-600), over the course of 3 years they all broke, the final cause on all was the power lead was knocked/dropped/became old which broke off the power connector inside, which cannot be fixed and needs a new laptop. My MacBook Pro 15" was £1400, but the power lead isn't a plug, its flat and held on purely with a magnet, so it cannot break or come loose. It's made of 1 piece of aluminium and the build quality is excellent. This is aside from the fact it is nicer to use, battery life is 7 hours, doesn't need an antivirus, doesn't need defragmenting etc. Also mac's hold their value brilliantly, I bought a new MacMini for £500, 2 years later I sold it for £400. What PC can you buy for £500 that isn't worth about £100 2 years later?
The Doctor Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 don't get a mac. Mac's are like a paolo sousa side - pretty but they don't really work, get something built for proper computer people rather than magpies who buy the product based on how shiny it is. Get a vaio. edit: oh and danny, that power cable thing can be fixed (sort of), i had an old laptop (acer travelmate 240), power cable troubles? open it up and stick it back together again. It doesn't work anymore but thats a unrelated problem.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 I think all you need to do when buying a laptop is see if you can tick the boxes for 'going on FoxesTalk' and 'looking at pornography', and if you can, just see which one is cheapest and buy that

I'm confused by this, I have an iMac that is on 24/7 and gets 12 hours use a day running 5-10 apps at the same time (including a virtual machine or 2 running windows) and a MBP that goes everywhere and has been dropped and bashed many a time and is a complete workhorse - how do they not really work? I'm not sure what you mean by proper computer people too? A Mac runs unix underneath the pretty stuff, open up a terminal and it's way more powerful and 'a proper computer' than the giant bloated mess windows has evolved into. On all the laptops I had the plug couldn't be soldered back onto the motherboard, I even one to a specialist soldering company and they said it would be cheaper to just buy a new Laptop.

danny. Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 My link haha, I use it for work, I use computers as little as possible outside of that!
