Ric Flair Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 I need a new one. Do I buy one now or wait until the January sales, but the VAT increase might mean I am no better off waiting? Plus i'm away for the majority of January, so what do you reckon?
FoxyPV Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Get a mac. You'll probably be able to get a good deal before xmas.
samjohnson Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Try and look for the places that give you the VAT back (Sony Store are doing it at the moment)
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 i would imagine most places will start there January sales on the 26th December - does that work out any better for you? I guess it will be down to what you see and finances - if you like and have the cash just get it now and be happy!
Haydos Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Could be either or really. I'd check regularly til xmas anyway for any bargains. I'd recommend having a look at the refurbished (Think they're old store models or returned from customers and not allowed to be sold as new again) laptops on the pc world website every week or so as well. Get some right good deals on them coming up quite often.
FoxyPV Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Ebay may be worth a shout - just make sure that they post all the details of the software and then get it checked (if a mac) in an Apple store. Mrs got a good one off ebay- the only thing the bloke forgot to do was wipe the internet history full of nasty porn
sdb Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 def a macbook although i'm not sure i'd call them cheap
ajthefox Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 2.5% increase in tax will make a lot less difference than a sale price will until you start at looking nearer the 1k mark for a laptop i would imagine.

MPH Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Only issue about buying from ebay is the ' what do i do if it breaks' thingy... other than that it depends on how much cash you got. might save a couple of hundred waiting till Jan but how badly do you need it now?
coale39 Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Depends what ya budget is/ waht ya want it to do. I recommend ebuyer.
broughtonblue Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 You say you need a new one, this makes me think you have an old one? Pretty sure it's currys doing this offer at the minute, get £70 off any new one if you trade in an old one. Advertised very recently
MC Prussian Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Get a MacBook. Maybe a bit pricey, but a joy to use and to work with. A current 15-inch Pro model or one of the new, flat ones will do nicely.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Why buy a Vaio? They do the same thing as cheap laptops, run the same system, software and use the same processors. Waste of money. At least a Mac gives you a different user experience.
Finnegan Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 Never owned a Vaio and likely wouldn't pick it over a cheaper alternative. But the general point made me giggle. Mac users make me smile, I'm a PC
Alexikokopops Posted 1 December 2010 Posted 1 December 2010 I have a Mac. Why? Because it looks nice and my old housemate buys and sells them, which means I got it cheaper than the equivalent PC. It is very pretty, and works better than any PC I've owned, but they are quite expensive. Thus ends my extensive review.

All it actually achieves is the same as a Tata Nano. But who wants to drive one of them? I guess that makes a Vaio a Lexus. In theory it is better than the others and has the price tag to match, but somehow it is just not a Mercedes or a BMW.
