Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 Not letters at any rate. All Royal Mail foot deliveries in Leicester were suspended today. Why? Who knows, it's not that bad today, everyone got into work okay and the mail arrived okay and it was all prepped and ready to go when all the deliveries were suspended. One suspects that there have been a few badly twisted ankles (one in my office I know of - his ankle looked like he'd had a golf ball implanted under his skin!) due to the fact that RM are running late with sending out snow spikes for boots and don't want to lose more Posties to injury. Can't say that I agree with a blanket suspension - a lot of roads and pathways are fine, but then some side roads and people's driveways are like icerinks. Surely a round by round decision could be made? Van deliveries still went out. Not quite sure why, since they're still subject to the same risks as foot posties (they have to get out of the van and up the drive) plus the added risk of icey roads. Anywhere else not getting their post? I know on the news this morning they reported nationally that 2 million households didn't yesterday.
Mee Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 We didn't receive any today and we are in Rearsby (LE7), i was wondering why we didn't aswell.

Rearsby was my first round a few years back - you'll probably remember the post being late and to the wrong address during a few months in 2006
Joe. Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 I haven't had any post for the last two days in Eastbourne. Looks like the ticket office will be getting a phone call tomorrow when my ticket hasn't arrived...

Still not found out his name though.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 According to the postie that delivers our mail to the office, there were no deliveries yesterday but the fact that he told us this today and brought us some post suggests that at least van deliveries are up and running again

Still not found out his name though. Is he a scouser (not got too much of an accent now though), middle-aged chap? That's who it was when I left. The whole village is one round and although there not that many houses, due to the layout of the village and many long drives in the older part of the village, it is easily the longest round I've ever done on a regular basis!

He is middle aged, grey haired, his name may be Paul. It's like Guess Who! . I feel for all you postie's, going out in the freezing cold.
Thracian Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 Totally pathetic all round. There's no longer an attitude of "can do, will do". As for health and safety the sooner we're out of Europe and have our own minister for sensible clothing, the better!
Father Ted Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 Health and safety is ridiculous! Just get on with!
Jay Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 No post in Grantham for the last 2days either, no rubbish collected either

It only means carrying double the weight tomorrow
BoneDog Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 We haven't had any post all week. The poor posties are gonna be bogged down when they start again! I used to be a postie and it is probably in my top 3 of jobs I've had. Ooooh there were a few tarty hookers on my round I tell thee. The bad thing about it was when you get them boxes of advertising leaflets that you have to take to every house even if they've got no post that day. It wasn't my job to promote Safeway offers and stuff so it made me fume! Also, my dustbin is full and was supposed to be emptied 3 days ago. All roads should be conveyer belts then we wouldn't have this problem in weather like this. The only consolation is that it is frozen so the bin is not stinking the yard out.
Daggers Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 Plenty of post in NN14 - but no fat cheques. Sort it out Postie!

We don't even get paid for them according to their size and number now - everyone gets a flat rate and there can be as many as 6 in a week. For some reason, the last 2 months, every week we have delivered leaflets by a certain pizza outlet. Like people will forget and go, "I really fancy a pizza, but because I haven't had a leaflet this week, I have no idea where to go!"
Thracian Posted 4 December 2010 Posted 4 December 2010 No post in Grantham for the last 2days either, no rubbish collected either That'll be Mrs Thatcher's fault!
