Wymsey Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 I heard DMU full of posh people from a guy i know who goes there
AoWW Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 I'll admit it's mostly envy that their SU Bar is nicer than the one at Essex. Well, it was until we rocked up there anyway... It is (well, was!) a very nice bar. Many an hour I've spent in there (and that was as a post-grad!) - fond memories.
KFS Posted 20 January 2011 Author Posted 20 January 2011 Thanks everyone for the advice. I think the best course for me would be in Bournemouth, but it's so far away from home (Kent) and even further from Leicester!
danny. Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 I heard DMU full of posh people from a guy i know who goes there As a alumni of Leicester Uni and now living near DMU and loads of DMU students I'd say that Leicester probably has the 'posher' students.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I feel well placed to answer this, I've spent most of my time since 18 in Universities in a few capacities - alumni of Leicester Uni, currently work at Bournemouth Uni as a Researcher and currently doing a MSc at Southampton Uni... Firstly, this is a generalisation but League tables are underated in terms of choosing Unis - broadly speaking you have an increased chance of a decent job if you go to a solid institution. I had a ball at Leicester, absolutely loved it - and I believe its got better since I left, new library, O2 Academy etc...as for being more social than DMU - I doubt it, just next to two Scream pubs! I had an interview at DMU - but thought Leicester was more for me, a choice I'm glad I made! Bournemouth - It may well be by the sea, but in terms of facilities it is poor. Bournemouth itself is a lovely place, but since I've had an insight into the academic side of things - the standards are woeful, and I mean terrible. I went to a meeting not too long ago and senior people where saying "we've got to stop telling people that the sea is just down the road..." - says it all really. On the upside, they have a large number of nurses also with Bournemouth - something like only 50% of freshers get into halls (due to the lack of places), whereas most can guarantee freshers a place in halls - which for the social side, meeting new people is key imo... Southampton is good as well, its where a lot of academic staff from Bournemouth actually go to do their PHDs! These choices are difficult...best of luck!
