Finnegan Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 It's a shame that there isn't some kind of club cup competition involving English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish teams. Without them also playing in the same league system it would be pretty pointless. Cardiff, Swansea, Rangers and Celtic could maybe all be about on par but beyond that? Most of the Premiership would just win it every year - they'd end up playing their reserves which'd immediately ruin the spectacle and make it another mickey mouse competition. The Irish sides would just be making up the numbers, as would any Scottish or Welsh teams beyond those four.
davieG Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 "what makes you think we'd be lucky enough to be playing them?" if you had read my post properly then you would have noticed i stated that they should start in league1 or 2. now unless sven does the unthinkable and gets us relegated to the blue square leagues then we would meet them at some point. talk about shooting yourself in the foot! So why should teams in L1 /2 be excluded to allow them in or for that matter the the BS Premier or other lower league and my point was that the would inevitably replace two of the current teams in the PL us being likely to be one of them as much as any other team. You may wish that upon us and other yoyo teams but I don't so as I said if you're so keen to see them play take a trip north now!

davieG Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Not for the poor buggers thrown out and not for the lower leagues when they made their inevitable rise to the top and then not for the two teams excluded from the PL. But I know what you mean.
Finnegan Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 The PL would much rather the Old Firm join up 'unfairly' than see Stockport County earn promotion. I agree that it's a travesty.

I'm not convinced, would they actually benefit that much apart from a couple of better attended games. Two would lose their place in the PL and one and more than likely two would lose their European spots with teams like Spurs, Man City and Liverpool being in danger.
Finnegan Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I mean the authority as a business, not the clubs.

Webbo Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Lets face it English football doesn't need Rangers and Celtic. The Premier league is already sold to about every country going. The top 5/6 virtually sell out every week and the lesser teams don't need the competition. It's never going to happen.
