cc_star Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 A blog posting has appeared on TheSeventyTwo about Sven, (also features Manderic, his sackings & other stuff) a brilliant, brilliant post - Make sure you read it today. Sven-Goran Eriksson's Leicester City are one of the Championship's form teams, but new investment is not the sole reason for their recent climb. While there has been substantial backing from the club's new owners, the canny Swede has still called on all his experience to drag his new charges towards the top of the table........ Full Article
Callabinho Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 A good read that is! It's great to finally sit here and see us thriving under this new project. I was talking to a Sheffield United fan recently, he views on us are "look at Leicester getting help again", for one reason or another he was convinced we always end up better off than other clubs around us, Truth is we have not. Recent years have seen us be a non mover in the championship, on the verge of no longer existing, had a few disasters regarding managers and ultimately it led to our relegation to our lowest ever point! I feel we deserve what we have had in the last few years! Nigel Pearson started the rebirth of Leicester City! And Mr. Eriksson is continuing with the fine work, its not a case of just buying premier league players due to their status, he has picked players who he knows will influence the team! Both Kyle Naughton and Van Aanholt have played at this level before! And Sven has got players all with something to prove. We are playing with a swagger that I have not seen for years, and we matched arguably one of the best teams in the country at home (Walkers) in Manchester city! Sven is a wise old manager and he knows this game inside out, maybe some people will realise he was the best thing that happened for England post Sir. Bobby, and now he is building his team with us, and I am privileged to watch him do it!
Prospero Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Thanks CC star for the original post, or I would not have see the article. I agree entirely with Callabinho's view. I could not have said it better myself, which is why I haven't.
James. Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Fez - have you thought about writing an in depth article on the points towards the end, i.e. the short termism and out-of-favour youngsters? Would be interested to read a balanced analysis of this... it's probably the only potential negative that could be aimed at Sven's approach so far. I'm not sure where I stand to be honest.

It pretty much sums up English football tbh which not only directly impact finance of your club but the national team. Boom and bust tactics. Even the clubs like Burnley etc. who built a side and got promoted with it, still went daft on transfers and short-termism in the past two seasons once they got there. Blackpool can't stop spending either. It's increasingly a necessary evil it appears until you're established.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Have received (and responded to) an interesting comment on this from another blogger (which covers James's question): http://theseventytwo.com/football-league/championship/2011/02/11/how-sven-goran-eriksson-has-revolutionised-leicester-city/#comment-1050
davieG Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Let's not forget also when doing these comparisons that we have and have had a number of players out on loan ourselves. now they may not be on wages comparable with Yakubu but I'm betting Kermorgant, N'Guessan, Kennedy and Chambers are on a par with, or more than Naughton, Mee and co Jorrin John - To Kettering March 9th Luke O'Neill - To Kettering March 1st Danny N'Guessan - To Southampton until June Tom Kennedy - To Peterborough until June Cian Bolger - To Bristol Rovers until February 16th Abdillahie Yussuf - To Tamworth until January 29th Robert Ambrusics - To Stafford Rangers until January 12th Aman Verma - To Dalington until January 2011 - loan extended 1 month - now end of season Ashley Chambers - To York City until January 2011 - loan extended end of season June 2011 Yann Kermorgant - Year loan to AC Arles Avignon
B52 Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 We're talking about Revolutionised by sven. I copied this from a poster on TB when they talked about the owners: "Something else they have done for the club is to encourage the next generation of supporters to be Leicester fans. 18 months ago I could run a course for 14 year olds and when asked who do you support you would get 1 or 2 if you where lucky who would say Leicester, and they would get laughed at by the glory boys. Now I've just started another course for a local school, again working with 14 year olds and when we asked how many support Leicester there were 8 out of the 12 put there hands up. And out of that 8, six of them have been going to the games. It's exciting times to be a Leicester Fan now matter how old you are..i'd say enjoy every second of it." This is really great news and shows that Sven and the owners doing something right.

Weren't we the last club to get away with paying our creditors 10p in the pound without any sanctions from the FA/Football League? I can see how that could generate resentment among supporters of various other clubs.

I can see how that could generate resentment among supporters of various other clubs. Virtually every business that goes into and comes out of administration ends up repaying their creditors less than they were owed. If I remember rightly we paid ours considerably more than 10% as there was agreement to pay more if we got promoted. Also do not forget that we were forced into administration by Eric Hall, Denis Wise's Agent even though we'd already come to an agreement with all our creditors to pay them in full in time. Our admin arrangements were in fact better than most, what pissed people off and ended up with them calling us cheats was that in spite of making all our players available for transfer, we were wrongly accused of hanging onto them and that we still managed to get promoted, even though this meant our creditors got more of their money back. Sheepshank at Ipswich was a major accuser yet he took Ipswich in and out of admin in a day or two paying only 10% yet managed to keep it low profile.
