MikeyT Posted 27 March 2011 Author Posted 27 March 2011 This is horrendous. Can't believe how quickly the water rises or how high it comes up against the building. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEn0vnq1PVI The news is also getting much worse regarding the radiation issue especially in Japan, but elsewhere too. Apparantly as far away as Belgium has seen radiation from Japan, as has Vienna. The offices of the european headquarters of the UN in Vienna monitors radiation levels worldwide and their radiation monitor on the roof confirmed radiation levels of 150 micro c\verts per hour a couple of days ago. Does the stuff get carried in pockets in the air and then suddenly drops to the ground or something? 'Cos part of Wales got it bad from Chernobyl, and is still dangerous, and I always wondered how it got just there and not all other places on the way. Edit : I'm not sure what those c \ verts are or if it's spelt correctly - I heard about that on the radio a couple of days ago. The person on that roof filming must have been crapping them self, in case something happened to the building they were on.
FoxyPV Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 Empty - that video is ****ing mental. I'm glad I'm not the person on the roof.
Wymsey Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 The disastrous speed in which the high levels of water went surprised me a lot as the land didn't look very low to me.
Finnegan Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13005110 Wtf.
MikeyT Posted 7 April 2011 Author Posted 7 April 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13005110 Wtf. Jesus! First i've heard about this.
Finnegan Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I mean seriously. What do you have to do to get a bit of luck?
shen Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I mean seriously. What do you have to do to get a bit of luck? Not build a whole coastal civilization on a hotbed of lava and seismic activity? Seriously though, it's quite horrific how many natural disasters they've had to endure, especially South and East Asia in recent times. Hope they can pull through without many casualties.

Even by their own standards this is ridiculously unfortunate though.
BoneDog Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 The person on that roof filming must have been crapping them self, in case something happened to the building they were on. Empty - that video is ****ing mental. I'm glad I'm not the person on the roof. Yes they must have been really shitting bricks. I was surprised at how calm they seemed because they didn't utter a word for the whole 5 minutes if I remember correctly. Shock I suppose. Terrible to hear about this new earthquake and possible tsunami. First I've heard of it. I just read that Japan has a rainy season from the start of May until the end of June. Not sure how bad their rainy season is but that could have a bad effect on clean up operations and all that if it's a heavy one.
MikeyT Posted 7 April 2011 Author Posted 7 April 2011 Apparently the warning was not long after it was announced. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia-Pacific/2011/0407/Japan-earthquake-today-Tsunami-warning-lifted-but-Fukushima-evacuated
Jackirius Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Looks like they got away with this one, strange how their have been such large aftershocks with this earthquake, usually the aftershocks after a major earthquake don't hit above 6.5ish if my old geography teacher taught me right.
