Finnegan Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Thoughts obviously with anyone in the middle of it all, must be terrifying. But I doubt we've seen the worst of it yet. While there'll be deaths in Japan and they'll be no less tragic than anywhere else, they're a sophisticated nation that are well and truly used to this. Concerns are with the smaller pacific islands that will soon be hit; we could see much, much worse in the next few hours.
Samilktray Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Apparently Americas West Coast has aTsunami warning too
MikeyT Posted 11 March 2011 Author Posted 11 March 2011 Apparently Americas West Coast has aTsunami warning too Heard on BBC News this morning that Hawaii may be in line for one.
MrSpaM Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Thoughts go out to Yuki and any family he currently has in the disaster zones at the moment
MikeyT Posted 11 March 2011 Author Posted 11 March 2011 Thoughts go out to Yuki and any family he currently has in the disaster zones at the moment Wouldn't be suprised not to see him tomorrow against Scunny. Hope he's holding up ok, obviously as well as the rest of the Japanese population.
Jon the Hat Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 BBC's Kate McGeown in Indonesia says a tsunami has been detected in the north east of the country, but it's only half-a-metre high. Too early to say if damage has been caused. We used to call them waves in my day. Hopefully this means the other countries warned above need not worry to much.
hairy Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Heard on BBC News this morning that Hawaii may be in line for one. I have read it should get there in the next half hour I think the coolant malfunction at the nuclear plant in Japan should be a big concern
ithuriel Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 They have just issued an alert at that damaged nuclear power plant and ordered peeps nearby to evacuate
MPH Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 I have read it should get there in the next half hour I think the coolant malfunction at the nuclear plant in Japan should be a big concern its travelling towards them at over 500 miles per hour...
Zingari Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 its travelling towards them at over 500 miles per hour... has your sig been speeded up deliberately or is it my pc playing up ? ps it is very funny btw
MrSpaM Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Nuclear plant issues have now become an emergency situation...
MikeyT Posted 11 March 2011 Author Posted 11 March 2011 Nuclear plant issues have now become an emergency situation... Not good at all.
FoxyPV Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 The coastguard said they have found 200-300 bodies from those who have drowned in Sendai.
Jackirius Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Shit me, been watching alot of it today the force of the wave is unbelievable, whole houses just taken off their foundations and carried inland by it. Crazy
MPH Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 500mph? That can't be right surely?! its right. manages to slow down some as it approaches land for some reason has your sig been speeded up deliberately or is it my pc playing up ? ps it is very funny btw i thought it was just me! Some days its faster than Linford Christie on drugs. Allegedly.
Jackirius Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 its right. manages to slow down some as it approaches land for some reason Current is a lot stronger out at sea because of the deeper water, the shallower it gets and the more inland resistance it encounters slows it down. But 500mph is pretty darn quick.
MC Prussian Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Watching entire rows of cars being swept away just like Lego stones and hearing about an entire train with its passengers missing puts life into perspective.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Watching entire rows of cars being swept away just like Lego stones and hearing about an entire train with its passengers missing puts life into perspective. aye it does at that, very sad
StanSP Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 On the presumption that Yuki Abe's family is still situated where he was born, in Chiba, then there's every chance that the earthquake/tsunami would have struck there. So I have every sympathy for him, any of his family caught up, and every other person who's lost loved ones or themselves been caught up in the devastation. Chiba's on the western side of Japan, on the coast of Tokyo Bay, not on the coast of the Pacific though. But it would have got some effect no doubt. Just looking at some of the maps on Google relating to today's events, the 'Shakemap' has it on a 'Strong' scale. Here's the predicted tsunami height. Quite harrowing and scary to see. The black is about to cover Sendai. Chiba is where the pin/arrowpoint on the map is. Tokyo is just slightly to the left of there. The black star is the epicenter.
Bugg Posted 11 March 2011 Posted 11 March 2011 Yuki confirms family and friends are ok. I hope he scores at the weekend.
CKB Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 It's truely awful, families have been torn apart, many people killed, life won't ever be the same for these people and then i see jokes already appearing about it, it just shows the total classyness of people in this day and age
