FoxyPV Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 Not really that concerned and fair enough, language does evolve and we have to try and keep up, but it is disappointing to see text-speak in the dictionary. Txtspk is d futr
Starkwell Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 Why should sophistication be what we aspire to though? Language is about effective communication. Whilst I agree there's nothing better than having a wide vocabulary at your disposal to increase the accuracy of your message, unnecessary verbosity is something we should try to avoid. N.B. Well aware of how unnecessarily verbose that post was. I suppose not, although my observation was more the fact that these words represent the development of our society. Economy of language is well and good in its place but if the best legacy our generation can produce is slang words that condone obesity and a dumb internet abbreviation, I find myself rather disappointed and ashamed.
ScouseFox Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 Does this mean I could use them on my English coursework?
The Doctor Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 Text speak is the future I certainly hope it isn't. What happened to the language of Byron and Keats?
The Doctor Posted 27 March 2011 Posted 27 March 2011 You better be joking Ashley, if not then the dictionary is a pointless, disgusting book.

Not as disappointing as the fact that the original poster doesn't know when to use apostrophes. Anyone who messes up "its" and "it's" or "their" and "there" should be permanently held back at school until they learn the differences.

Please point out where I've gone wrong. I copied and pasted the original text, if that's what you are referring to. Any errors aren't mine, thank you.

Is that all the guy was moaning about. Oh dear. I added an apostrophe. Call the police quick.
