I can remember a few years ago ( 1990,s) when leicester reserves played Manchester United reserves. They had to win to stay in the league. Was I think about 10000 fans there. Man Utd brought nearlly there 1st team and we beat them ! Anyone else remember that game?

If it was the best way of bringing kids through we'd be doing it - as would everybody else. 16 teams entered the Premier Reserve League last year. That doesn't include Spurs, Birmingham, Fulham and Stoke who all felt that there were better methods of bringing youngsters through and pulled out. So that gives me the impression that it doesn't present a competitive enough environment. Or, at least, not compared to loaning players out to first team football. I've seen footage of Arsenal Reserves playing Everton Reserves. Two of the biggest youth academies in the country. Played in front of a handful of people at Everton's training ground. Both clubs still loan a large number of players out.

Our reserves would play alongside those from Bradford City and Rotherham United - at the same level as Gateshead's reserves.

As I said, I still don't necessarily disagree with it, it was just a suggestion. I think Fosse Boy's response probably hit the nail on the head.

I'm sure the clubs dont see BETTER ways of bringing youngsters out im sure they see more COST EFFECTIVE ways.. loan a player out, If he plays or not doesnt matter because at the end of the day someone else is paying his wages!

What about the kids just coming up from the academy? Get them playing for Leicester City Reserves.. continue to have them training and playing they way our staff want them to?!

Just look at our Captain and definately ONE OF if not THE best player we have... Andy King. Came up though the academy and reserves.

I'll repeat what I've put in the two other posts:

I'M NOT NECESSARILY AGAINST US ENTERING A RESERVE TEAM I WAS JUST SUGGESTING WHY WE DON'T.

I wasn't suggesting you were against it.. didnt mean to sound like i was arguing with you personally ... just arguing my point generally... isnt that what forums are for?

IIrc there was about 17,000 at that game.

Anyhoo, according to the moan in there won't be a reserve team this year.

And if my memory serves me right we won 4-0 or 4-1 with the Big O scoring a thunderbolt half volley.

I agree with Hoos on this one, players will develop better with a mixture of on loan first team experience and good training at LCFC. Don't neccesarily see the point in entering a reserve league, friendlies will be more than good enough IMO.

Don't really see how some yahoo from Wall Street could claim any expertise on how young footballers develop to be honest. Maybe that's just me being an old fuddy duddy though...

not too sure that playing friendlys will be a good idea as they will not come as often as playing in a reserve.

its always a good idea to send people out on loan to gain experience, but what about those who dont get sent out or those who are coming back from injury? Playing friendlies will not be enough and that has shown in the last few seasons.

thanks
