Attempt become self sufficient.

City have been losing around £6 million a year for the past couple of seasons and Whelan has said that can't continue.

"One of the biggest challenges we face will be making the club self-sufficient," she said.

"To even attempt to do this we must work with the local community, the supporters and businesses, whilst creating a venue that people choose to use throughout the week and not just on matchdays."

Have pretty much suspected this since the “Sven has ten million to spend” headline in November which turned out to be us making a profit in the transfer window, the local media here have a lot to answer for in the way they build up our fans expectations with the nonsense that is printed in the Mercury sometimes. The good thing about this is at least we now actually know they are not going to be throwing cash at players to come here.

I for one am glad, no club should risk its long term financial stability for a gamble on short term success, we have all seen what’s happened to Southampton, West Ham, Portsmouth etc when paying players like John Utaka 80k a week in the false belief they have an endless supply of money because they had “rich” owners.

You need a team to go up in this division, if it’s a blueprint they want then follow QPR’s or Norwich’s last season, two extremely different styles but both highly successful, the one thing that they had in common though – Players with a desperate genuine desire to play premiership football for the shirt they were wearing. This summer for every player we consider bringing in that should be the first question we ask of them.

A little birdie tells me that there are initiatives already planned and ready to roll out for the new season:

All the salad sold in the concessions will be sourced from the LCFC allotments in Groby.

The new shop will contain nothing but asian style vending machines, thus saving money on personnel who will be relocated to tend the lettuce and tomato plants in the allotment.

All fans will be asked to watch the evening matches on exercise bikes, and generate electric for the floodlights and new large screen televisions.

I suspect there are many more planned but as the information leaks I'll try to share!

I wouldn't think that wanting a balanced book will affect our transfer dealings too much, at least for the first couple of years anyway. They want to make the club sustainable which is very promising but they want Premiership football (as they repeatedly make clear) to contribute to this. In recent seasons our losses haven't been affected by transfer dealings so I would assume they'll be addressing off-field issues first.

The spend this year and last will be expected to be returned by the income generated in the Asian market once we gain Premiership status. These guys are no fools.

I don't expect us to deal in transfers in the tens of millions this year or the next. The transfers will be realistic, and I've stated that those we think we won't have as many loans as the last season, may be disappointed. i don't think we'll be reliant on them, but I expect loans to be part of our rotational squad.

The owners are clearly taking MM's strategy of high wages/low transfer fees.

There is a ceiling of income generation in Leicester/Leicestershire for through tickets/merchandise. At the moment they are doing a good job of maximising the avenues available to them locally to make money , but that has it's limits. The real profit is to be made abroad, and this is the only way of sustaining a Premiership status without bankrolling it all yourself and going into serious debt.

Stoke? Bolton? Everton? Sunderland?

Well no I imagine most of our losses over the last few season were due to Milan's trigger finger and the millions upon millions he had to throw away paying off his mistakes.

I hope we don't persist with the high wages approach, it's the only idea we seem to have at the minute, us Cardiff and Middlesboro have tried the same thing and it doesnt seem to work down here when you look at the 6 sides who have gone up over the last two season (except Newc and West Brom who went up due to having settled teams with wages being covered by parachute payments)

I'm not sure about Stoke, but Everton has an Asian presence, and Sunderland is aiming at Irish supporters who haven't chosen a top four team etc to support.

Bolton have exceeded expectations recently and done it on a shoestring. They are the new Fulham.

The same thing between the four - all have a good young british manager who has been given time to build a settled squad.

Paul Lambert is the new one, why we let one go without a fight I still dont know. (well we do but thats another story)

What's that got to do the point made about self-suffiency? Income generation?

Nothing I just thought of the point after I had brought those 4 teams up.

Or maybe it is, maybe someone who knows the British game inside out is more adept at bringing success and consistency on limited budgets (Wenger aside but he has been here so long now he should know it), not saying there arent crap british managers out there, as there are too many.

Back to the point, one thing I was trying to make iS why do the local press here try to force this upon everyone that we have loads of money and can't wait to get rid of it, its irresponsible and is probably working agaisnt the club when it comes to us trying to attract/purchase players.

Well it looks like we have just appointed some good experienced buisness people that have just taken up roles in the club. So hopefully they can get us back on track.

Self sufficient & Promotion quickly = highly unlikely.

To be self sufficient and to challenge at the top of the league is extremely difficult. You need a lot of cheap players, on low to average wages, a great manager to to make them play above their previous levels and a massive dose of luck. It's not impossible as Swansea have been promoted this year actually making a profit, but they have been building towards this for years.

If we had Pearson still on board I think we could have reached that goal eventually, as he and his team were excellent at getting the best out of players and finding some gems. The owners actions since they arrived have pointed at not continuing that kind of approach.

The job Pearson did was absolutely phenomenal really, he got to the play offs with half he squad we cast off last season as not needed and that was in a league where Newcastle and West Brom were always going to piss the top 2 spots.

If we get in the premiership, I'd think debt's would be sorted out.

I just worry if we don't get there what will happen. Will we do a Cardiff? But I suppose we have alot more money with the new owners.

:D

Is this the new management structure at the club that was announced yesterday?

Doubt we'll even be close to this summer's biggest Championship spenders, fully expect Sven to rely on the loan market once more, as some on here seem to forget, we bleed money day in and day out, i think the new owners have come to realise and fear this fact. :S
