Dublin - Bullshitter or seriously impressed?

Dion Dublin says Leicester City's facilities and recruitment plans helped to influence his decision to sign a new contract.

The 36-year-old striker said he spurned interest from other clubs to put pen to paper on a new one-year deal at the Walkers Stadium.

The former England international also hinted that Craig Levein was looking to bring in further signings before the end of the summer, something that had played a part in his decision.

"There were a few things I had to think about," said Dublin.

"There were a few other clubs that showed interest, which is nice at my age.

"I thought about the facilities, the training ground, the ground I would be playing at and the players I would be playing with. Leicester outweighed everyone else by a long way."

Dublin added: "I hope to be a big influence on the younger players here.

"The players I have heard he (Levein) is bringing in are going to be a plus to Leicester City and, hopefully, I can help them.

"I feel as though I have a lot of respect on and off the field, which is nice, and I hope that's going to carry through to the new group of players."

Dublin's signature is a boost to Levein's plans for the coming campaign.

The manager said: "We are really thrilled that Dion has decided to re-sign.

"From the moment I came to the club he wanted to buy into what we were doing both on and off the field. He has more than merited the offer of a new deal and we are delighted to have him on board again for next season."

Dublin says he believes City have the ability to challenge for a top-six finish in the Championship next season - but success will depend on finding the consistency that was lacking last term.

"There's capability in everything about Leicester City," said Dublin.

"It's a Premiership ground, there's no question.

"I have always said it's about being consistent in this league. It's a harder league to win games in than it is in the Premiership.

"You can go out and play football in the Premiership but in this league there's no time. You have to be mentally strong in order to go up.

"Teams like Sunderland had that, a mentally strong manager and players, and that's why they won it."

We do have good facilities though in our Stadium and Training ground I reckon they impress alot of players! The real reason though is it means another year of a good weekly wage for Dublin!

Still hopefully he can bring on DeVries and the other youngsters!

I am led to beleive that the terms offered to Dion were less than the contract he was on previously by some way.

Dion's an honest bloke and he does love the club. It would've had to have been a big club or one offering him a lot more money to take him away I think. Our stadium is one of the best in the Championship and the training ground has some good facilities and the main pitches are very good quality.

I remember CL saying that the training ground could be improved actually. Wasn't a lot of what we put in tailored to Micky's needs? Like the fact that he asked for there to be a big communal bath rather than individual ones.:ph34r:

My brother said that Levein had hinted that he thought the training ground could be better. He wanted more pitches or something along those lines but I think it's a good setup there. I think the academy lads that come on here will agree that the two main pitches are very well looked after possibly aswell as the pitch is at Filbert Way. The indoor dome is an impressive addition too. The only thing I can think of that Levein might not like is the way the younger lads are sometimes sent off to play games somewhere else (not sure where but might be the pitch to the right of the dome). I think they only get to play on the main pitches when they get towards the back end of the academy and they play on Saturday mornings. He wanted to improve the academy setup because it had been left in a bit of a state after administration and maybe he wants more quality pitches so they can have more people working at the same time instead of sending the young lads off whilst the first team train.
