AjcW Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Starts today. KIA Oval. Im sure its the beginning of a new era every one day series we take part in!!! Very frustrating but hey maybe it will be this time! Ali Cook has lost his first toss and Sri Lanka will bowl first. Some strange selections in the England XI but we shall see, Jade Dernbach(Yes another foreigner!!) comes in for his debut. 5 ODI's in total... I think it will be 3-1 Sri Lanka with Weather knocking out one match. This is also Mr Jayasuriya's last ever ODI
Corky Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Good to see Cook given a proper chance in the one-day team. This will be so tough, but you never know.
AjcW Posted 28 June 2011 Author Posted 28 June 2011 Good to see Cook given a proper chance in the one-day team. This will be so tough, but you never know. Absolutely agree with the Cook point. And I quite like the look of the opening partnership, as long as Keiswetter finds a balance, I think we have seen him out in the first ten overs after a few decent shots far too often and this series is probably his last chance to cement a place.
AjcW Posted 28 June 2011 Author Posted 28 June 2011 his last chance? Yes... There's plenty of good wicket keeper batsmen waiting behind him, and its a position England have been ruthless with. Prior will be back in in a second if he fails, and there's a few behind him waiting in the wings as well.
Corky Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Kieswetter does need to perform. Prior, Davies, Mustard or Foster could all come in.
FoxyPV Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Yes... There's plenty of good wicket keeper batsmen waiting behind him, and its a position England have been ruthless with. Prior will be back in in a second if he fails, and there's a few behind him waiting in the wings as well. I take it you're talking about Kieswetter rather than Cook? If Cook is meant to be a wicketkeeper/ batsman I'm sure it's news to him.

Fox You Forest Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Useful start, good catch from Collingwood too.
Podge Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Useful start, good catch from Collingwood too. You mean Morgan? And It's turned in to a cracking start now.
Fox You Forest Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 You mean Morgan? And It's turned in to a cracking start now. Sure do. It's a habit.
Corky Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 110 run win, absolute thumping for Sri Lanka. Jimmy Anderson is superb.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 This is also Mr Jayasuriya's last ever ODI On the subject of Jayasuriya...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 On the subject of Jayasuriya... Very Interesting read, politics only ever seem to creep in to cricket or at least cricket more than other sports.
Corky Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 England look far more balanced with Bresnan in the team, still not convinced about Broad currently.
AjcW Posted 29 June 2011 Author Posted 29 June 2011 It's a strange one... The swap of Finn for broad seems simple, especially now broad seems to have forgotten how to bat as well as bowl... I'd imagine it's more of a face saver... Can't really drop your t20 captain from a one day team and all that... Cop outs as per usual. Also much better from Keiswetter!!
Alexikokopops Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 I should be more concerned that I set an alarm to wake up and bid on an original 1992 England Cricket World Cup shirt. Look at it in all its early 1990s glory
accessory Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 England look far more balanced with Bresnan in the team, still not convinced about Broad currently. Broad seems to have completely lost the plot right now. But maybe he'll regain it in the next game, on his home patch of Trent Bridge.

Alexikokopops Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 The 90's one day shirts were the best by far. The England and Australia ones are clearly the best
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 I love the Pakis one it was so bright in real life, it almost burnt your retinas
Alexikokopops Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 The 90's one day shirts were the best by far. Looking at this photo again, it's superb. Border has clearly dropped a smelly one which Gooch is finding HILARIOUS.Azharuddin is disgusted, being in direct firing line of the incident, while Martin Crowe is upwind and completely oblivious of the whole thing. Imran Khan has smelt it but is trying to keep his fury in, clutching his fist, and it's probably this more than anything that spurred him on to score his match winning 72 in the final.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 I'm trying to rack my brain who the Zim captain is, i think it's Dave Houghton but not 100% sure.
Corky Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Yes that is Dave Houghton, with slightly more hair. And accessory, Broad needs to start performing soon, with Finn and Tremlett both more than capable of stepping in.
