Guest Bilo Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Bristol City are just the roundabout advertising of the Championship, totally pointless and have very little purpose. Can of worms there matey pips.

nuttytimmy Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 If I may crash your thread, I've posted my own views on the upcoming season in my Coventry City preview and reflections on pre season posts: fossefoxes.blogspot.com I'm very excited as to what could happen this season. Wouldn't it be nice to go up as champions?
Rusko187 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 My views, I'm confident we'll perform well but I don't think for a minute we will walk it.. Feel comfortable in the knowledge that Eriksson has had a bit of experience in this season but it's going to be a tough one. Personally the large amount of midfield and defenders is only a good thing, we have the depth and strength but personally I'm a little concerned with the lack of strengthening the attack. If we sign a striker I will only than begin to think of promotion.
Leicesterpool Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Personally I can see Portsmouth, Bristol City & Doncaster going down. Going up Reading, West Ham & of course :sge: army

David Guiza Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 I don't know why so many people are predicting Reading to go up, as we know they've lost their best defender by a country mile. Also they've brought no-one of note in and haven't spent any of the 5mill. With the possible loss of Long as well I think they'll settle for midtable. Personally I think Hull will be up there, with the exception of Adebola, they've brought very well IMO and were improving throughout last season.
cc_star Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Yes I fear it could October or so before we're firing on all cylinders and I also share the opinion that our pre-season opposition whilst good for the brand in playing big teams like Valencia & Real Madrid and to some extent Bursaspor & Real Mallorca wasn't great for championship preparations hardly touching the ball for at least 2 of those games wasn't ideal, as the attacking side of our game took a back seat. As far as my predictions Bristol city will be towards the bottom as will Palace & sadly for them Donny just don't have the funds to strengthen. Peterborough seem to be substantially weaker than when they were promoted and can see them adrift at the bottom before long At the right end: West Ham's first team could walk it IMO unless Green, Upson & Parker leave, the signing of Nolan & Taylor is just the icing on the cake and they still could have Carew & Long in their ranks before much longer, and they have something we don't which could be very telling for the first 10 games or so, they haven't signed up to 12 players. A team that comes down often walks it, last season was a rarity in that regard, where all 3 struggled to get going. I just can't see where our goals are going to come from unless we sign a couple up front, it's hard to tell much from pre-season (4 meaningful matches 2 goals) but I haven't seen anything to suggest we've changed from last years, fantastic play but need 15 chances to score 1, with more chances than almost any club in the division. If we do get someone of the class of Maynard or Long I do fancy us for 2nd or maybe even Champs, but if not... we'll be scrapping it out with the chasing pack. I'm going to go for West Ham Followed by someone from Blackpool, Cardiff, Ipswich, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Forest, Reading Even B'ham may not do as badly as everyone thinks either and I also fancy Brighton and Southampton to win far more than they lose although not to be challenging for 2nd It's going to be a tough, tough division, it's usually hard but seems even harder this year.

Even without a fabled "20 a season" striker, I reckon we'll keep more clean sheets and score at least some of those hundreds of corners we always get but fail to convert. I reckon just those two things will be enough to put us in the playoffs. If we get a good striker, too, or one of our existing front lads gets his eye in this season, we might even make the autos. Plenty to be optimistic about at this stage!
