Was it just nerves?

I've been thinking. (It happens.)

It was a very nervous performance yesterday. VERY nervous, especially the start. A few minutes ago I put that together with the fact we had eight players making their home debuts in a competetive league match. Eight players wanting to have a great game so that they could win their new supporters' love. Huge expectations were on them and they knew they had to justify their positions; other new players were waiting in the wings. These players didn't pass into open air and miss time runs that I could have done better at because they are bad players. Some of the things they did yesterday would have seen them dropped from Sunday league teams and none of them are players of that calibre. It was nerves, surely.

Ok, some will say they didn't show nerves against Real Madrid, but this just furthers by belief that this was a lot to do with nerves. Real Madrid didn't matter, it was for nothing. We were expected to lose and we did. However, on that occasion we put in a reasonable performance. Maybe that was because everyone felt they could go out and play their game with no pressure; Maybe.

It will take time for this team to gel, maybe we've brought in too many players at one time (and yet the crowd cries out for "more!" :dunno: ). Maybe we should intergrate them 2-3 at a time, with the "old guard" showing them the ropes? But do we have time for that? Maybe just sticking them all in together, knowing that they will misfire a few times before they get up and running, is the way to go?

Well I'll tell you how we can find the answer. We watch and wait. It's all we can do. Only then will we know the answer - when it's either too late or by the time we're laughing about being so worried.

You've gotta love football. It's brilliant! And supporting Leicester City is even better! :scarf:

Pretty good response, Mills especially looked a touch nervous, maybe a bit unwilling to go in a kick the s*** out of his mates, he performed very poorly yesterday. I'm fairly sure he's not like that as are the rest of the players.

The one problem is that if it was nerves, wouldn't it have kicked in against Cov? Especially when we went down to 10 men?

Nah, playing in front of our home fans is hugely different pressure wise to playing away from home, particularly for the debutants.

I guess so, but when you go down to 10 men away from home, in the first 15 mins in front of 6000 supporters, it could highly raise all the nerves I guess. Maybe not, it might have spurred them on to rid their nerves, we'll never know. The important thing now is to, in the words of Schmeichel "just win on wednesday and get a run going." Time to support our team, forget our poor performance and show the league that we can dominate!

Not sure. Another reason could be all the new players. Buying this amount of players is bound to initially upset the rhythm of any team.

The thing was 23 thousand people turned up expecting nothing but a win, the players new that and the pressure showed. On Wednesday they will know 20 odd thousand people will expect it to be put right! Hopefully they will react to that.

Possibly, but the pressure will be increased for the Bristol City match.

They've got to cope with the pressure.

This is a very possible reason.

Mills was totally freaked out by the whole experience, and many others looked like the expectations of the fans and media were a big burden.

I think we will see better on Wednesday :)

Oops. Corrected! We dont often play on a Wednesday these days, I wonder if I would have realized or just showed up for no reason on Tuesday

Usually at a game I'm a bit tense for the first 10 mins or so and then as the game settles down and relax a bit but I remember being on edge for the majority of the game yesterday and I'm sure the players would have sensed the tension in the crowd if it was there.
