Vlad the Fox Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 How do Cambridge, I can heartily and completely recommend Cervinia. I've been a Ski Club of GB guide, and spent 5 weeks there, all brilliant. Lots of big, wide, well kept runs for novices, some great little routes for the more adventurous, and a cheap way to get yourself to Zermatt if you fancy going further afield. It's a beautiful place, right under the Matterhorn (stunning, esp in the evening) good, cheap food and some quality bars in the evening. Really nice atmosphere for the place. Happy to give more specific recommendations if required, but cannot recommend it enough. More snow sure than Sauze (where I've skied on grass), although that's a fun place too... I've not been for a few years since the kids came along but as soon as they're all old enough i plan to get back on the slopes. Cervinia sounds great and i will definitely check it out when i do.

I might end up with a year off the skis as impending wedding is taking over, but hoping to sneak a few days in March. If you do get to Cervinia, jour et nuit is a fantastic restaurant run by a ski instructor, and the Copa Pan is always buzzing. English footie's on at Lo Yeti... I'm missing it now!
thewarmanator Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 I'm off to Whistler on Saturday, can't wait!
cambridgefox Posted 8 January 2013 Author Posted 8 January 2013 I'm off to Whistler on Saturday, can't wait! looked at it but with the family it was coming out at about 6k!!! Half boardWho did you book through?
thewarmanator Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Booked through Crystal. I'm going room only in the Four seasons for a week with lessons, passes and equipment hire for about £1600 so it's far from cheap however if I booked just the flight and room now it would be £1800 so I got a relatively good deal

Finally booked the Skiing today, not first choice date or destination, but our friends took so long to decide we couldn't get a chalet for 8 in Feb.Going 23rd March,so we are going to a higher resort.Alpe d'huez in France.i have wasted hours/days sorting something for our friends to delay for a day and the accomodation going.i am so relieved.
The Blur Posted 28 January 2013 Posted 28 January 2013 I hate skiing. It discriminated against my duck footing stance. Because of my natural footing, I have to go an extra mile to cross my skis to brake which I can't.
absolutelegend Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Sauze doulxe. On the Milky Way if I remember correctly, huge skiing area and high up. Fantastic bar (ghost bar) literally at the end of the slope which served great food and beer, we struggled to get out there. Reasonably priced when we went, a few years back now but it was some of the best skiing I've done. Ghost bar is ace - they also give you free snacks which is good. Been Sauze and couple of times. Reckon £ for £ its the best bet that I've been to. Just got back from 3 valleys last weekend (Val Thorens. Meribel, Courchevel). Was ace skiing but a right rip off and apres ski not as good as Austria or Italy.
thewarmanator Posted 3 February 2013 Posted 3 February 2013 Whistler is awesome and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys skiing. I just wish I could have seen more of Vancouver as around that area looks stunning
Hitesh Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 I've just been to Grouse Mountain near Vancouver and had a great day. Going to Whistler tomorrow and cannot wait! Gonna be epic!

If you are in Whistler, ask for an instructor called Andy Panneottou (Pan - e - otto) and give him a kiss from Gribbo.

La Tania nestled between Courchevel and Meribel was cheap, but that's no good to you now!Courchevel.....well,I fancied a beer ladt year whilst skiing and one bar on the piste wanted over 20 Euros a beer! I didn't bother, but there were plenty of Russians who didn't worry paying it.

So jealous. Make sure you do the drive from Vancouver to Whistler in daylight as its stunning. How long are you there for? Also what level skier are you?
