Clive Redman Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 Saw an article on LCFC OS recently about players taking part in a blindfolded penalty shootout against visually-impaired young players. Found this video below with footage of the day. http://www.soartv.co.uk/2011/09/13/inspire-leicestershire-blind-penalties/

Those fans who think the world has ended when we "only" draw with Barnsley should take a look at this and put some perspective into their world !! Although the guy who moves Beckford's ball would have had some explaining to do it he'd trod on it and twisted his ankle !!!!

mitcho_uk Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 I had just come on to this forum to post the story and a link to the video that we filmed last week, it's good to see that its already on here. See the below for a bit of background. To celebrate International Paralympic Day (8th September) and the launch of the London 2012 Paralympic Games ticketing process (9th September), a selection of Leicester City first team players took on a group of visually impaired local footballers, including 2 players in the England Development Squad, in a blind penalty shootout competition. Jermaine Beckford, Lee Peltier, Sean St Ledger, Paul Gallagher and Franck Moussa donned blindfolds to help level the playing field in a post-training shootout at Belvoir Drive, which proved to be a searching test of technique for the city stars. The visually impaired squad of players also took part in a skills showcase to demonstrate some of the technical qualities which will be on display at next year’s London 2012 Paralympic Games. Five-a-side Football made its Paralympic debut at Athens in 2004. At London 2012, all matches will be played at the brand new Hockey Centre in the Olympic Park, which will stage both the 5-a-side and 7-a-side Football competitions on alternating days. Dan Mitchinson, Inspire LeicesterShire’s 2012 Games Co-ordinator, said: “The excitement leading up to the London 2012 Paralympics is building momentum and this a great way to highlight these two important dates in the run up to the Games, which is now less than one year away, together with promoting the local opportunity we have for visually impaired players”. Mary Rudkin - Football Development Officer (Disability) at the Leicestershire and Rutland County FA and Inclusive Football Charity said “It is fantastic that Leicester City are supporting us to raise the profile and awareness of Blind Football and the opportunities we have for potential players, not only in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland but across the East Midlands. We have recently been awarded the status of a Football Association, Centre of Excellence for Blind Football, which is to be based at Judgemeadow Community in Leicester, so the support of Leicester City FC will really help us to promote the game, locally and regionally and recruit new players, who maybe one day have the opportunity to play Blind Football in a Paralympic Games in the future.” We would like to thank Leicester City Football Club, Leicestershire and Rutland County FA and the staff and players from both clubs for taking part on the day. A huge thank you goes to the team at Soar Media for helping us to organise the day and for producing the highlights video. London 2012 Paralympic Tickets Applications for tickets to the London 2012 Paralympic Games will open on Friday 9 September 2011 and will remain open until Monday 26 September. Narborough_fox Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 If Gally tried his normal penalty it would of been brilliant.
nothin2seehere Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 Brilliant stuff. Made me smile which can only be a good thing.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 I love this sort of thing. it is really fulfilling to give any help to people who are unfortunate enough to have a disability, being able to mix, and have fun, with famous sportsmen, or personalities. There are better things in life, for our players to do, than just be paid a fortune to win matches. Sure, that's why we all support Leicester City, and we can grumble and complain, when things go wrong. Let's get our priorities right though. Put yourself in the place of a blind person, who can'r see football, or a severely disabled, or sick person who cannot go to matches. Let us all, count our blessings, for being able to attend matches, win or lose..
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 If Gally tried his normal penalty it would of been brilliant. He did. And scored
panky and our gang Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 A real feel good video thanks for posting it :chant: :chant:

Criggers Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 A new version with a few bloopers can be found here I love the fact Beckford drags the ball pretty much bang on the spot again without removing the blind fold. Is that what you call strikers instict?
Dan Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Fvcking hell, it seems the blind FA sent Jon Moss.
somebum Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I love the fact Beckford drags the ball pretty much bang on the spot again without removing the blind fold. Is that what you call strikers instict? yeah, world class
Guest MattP Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I love the fact Beckford drags the ball pretty much bang on the spot again without removing the blind fold. Is that what you call strikers instict? No, it's because he left leg is next to the penalty spot. Damn good pen though, settle for that with proper sight.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 September 2011 Posted 16 September 2011 Don't know how I've never noticed that Moussa is the spitting image of Dizzee Rascal before!
Bugg Posted 16 September 2011 Posted 16 September 2011 Don't know how I've never noticed that Moussa is the spitting image of Dizzee Rascal before! But yeah, I agree
Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 September 2011 Posted 16 September 2011 Man I've been walking the line for long enough and fallen off enough times to know that it definitely is not. Didn't see your agreement
