Thracian Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Love how some people are slating him just like was the case when he joined first time round... Never learn. Never learn what? Not to advocate narrow, boring, functional football of the kind when one goal a game is a treat and goalless outings a regular occurence? I could write reims about the good qualities of Nigel Pearson. He's a good manager in many ways, commanding respect, instilling discipline and showing the commendable ability to assemble teams which will grind out results on a fairly regular basis. But we need more than that. We won't get promotion by just being dogged because other teams are setting out to score as many goals as they can and to win every match by the best margin possible. Dogged will only get us so far. And narrow, cautious football is by definition dogged. We've seen it here, Southampton saw it and Hull are experiencing it right now. And more particularly in away games. We need more than Pearson has shown he offers both on and off the pitch. We don't just need results but we need the sort of football people talk about and the sort of manager who can get the people excited about what's going on. Pearson can't wait to get away from the Press. Yes he's tried a bit harder at Hull but you can see he's uncomfortable and suspicious. We need a manager who can communicate as well as inspire our players to produce something worth watching on the pitch. If a team was a mess and in danger of relegation Pearson might be just the first man to call. But when it comes to playing with a bit of panache and getting people excited about the game ahead he's shown nothing at any of the three clubs I've mentioned. I appreciate that some fans would take promotion by having one shot a game to win 1-0 but it's not something I want to pay to watch, any more than shotless evening away games. Despite his achievements I wouldn't have wanted to watch George Graham's Arsenal team and winning titles doesn't have to be like that. The dourists have been catered for at Leicester for a decade and it's time we took another tack. That's not to wish Pearson anything but the very best of luck. But he belongs at places like Rotherham and Stoke. Places where it never stops raining, places where the factories have all closed just like the coal mines and where even a draw is likely to keep em cheerful. Leicester were once renowned for their football. People like Davie Gibson and Mike Stringfellow were a joy to watch. The sight of Lenny Glover hurtling down the wing and leaving the best defenders in the land in his wake were days to be remembered. The skills, the fun of Derek Dougan, Stan Collymore and Frank Worthington - big personalities who could make a ball talk. Pearson doesn't want to know that kind of football from anything I've seen yet look at the record books, pal. We achieved things. FA Cup finals, League Cup wins, we even climbed to the top of the First Divison and should have won it. Why campaign for caution? What the hell is the big attraction? And where has it got us? You say we never learn and I agree. We never choose a manager who'll have a go....home and away come rain or shine. .

If you're that bothered about exciting football and not winning anything go and watch Arsenal.
