wellyfox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 No brainer Win every game 1-0 score in the first 5 mins and backs to the wall. Then we go up. You think the moaners will turn and boo when then pot is lifted and we are up. Or play pretty football lose and stay where we are or even go down. They will still moan. Be nice to win every game 6-0 and go up. But the moaners would still moan (we missed a sitter or a penalty why was waggy not playing why was dyer playing) Just let em moan and ignore em.
ajthefox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 The two are not mutually exclusive and winning football is more often than not entertaining. If I had to choose it goes without saying really, the ones who voted entertainment are either doing it for a laugh or are plain stupid.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I would choose win games anyday of the week. but what is there to say that it cant be entertaining aswell. This, generally speaking if we are winning games it will be entertaining to a degree anyway though
mancunianfox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Pretty football can be entertaining when its another team but when it comes to my team winning is entertainment. Plus this idea that one team keeping possession of the ball for 80 out of 90 minutes is entertaining is bull. Barcelona are the dullest team to watch in the world despite how good they are, because their games are either not close or the only way to beat them is to defend in two banks of four and hit them on the break/set pieces. A 4-3 is usually more entertaining than a 4-0.
bmt Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 They're not mutually exclusive. I actually prefer entertaining football but good football can get results too.
Kitchandro Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 We haven't had a single 1-0 win since he came back... the idea that NP doesn't attack is and always has been a total myth. But I'm going to answer the question anyway. It depends on the situation doesn't it. Right now, only results matter. We need to get to the Premiership, I am desperate for promotion and good football will not be a consolation for failure. On the other hand, lets say we've been in the Premiership for a few years. Is getting enough results to finish lower-midtable really going to excite you? I would want us to either come close to winning a trophy, or at least playing some entertaining football. At the end of the day football is entertainment, if it's not entertaining what's the point. That doesn't just come from the quality of football, relegation battles can be very exciting, as can promotion battles, cup runs, and the quality of the atmosphere - though the latter is often effected by the quality of football. This season if we are in the top half the excitement will take care of itself, as we will be chasing something. At the end of the day you play football to win and that is the priority, BUT I don't want to watch rubbish football all my life with the best result just being in the bottom half of the Premier League for a few years. As an example.
Izzet is God Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 This sort of debate really annoys me....I heard a similar thing about Arsenal and Chelsea moaning that the style of play is more important than winning games. I'd much rather see us win games, gain revenue and success by winning games rather than watch us play "pretty football" but lose. The only way of winning leagues/cups and having any sort of success is by winning. Not looking good.
Kitchandro Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 They're not mutually exclusive. I actually prefer entertaining football but good football can get results too. Entertaining football is in fact more likely to get you results. The more you attack and the quicker you attack the better chance you have of scoring. You can't win if you don't score. I sometimes wonder what people define as 'entertainment' btw. Is it being positive and attacking, is it players running with the ball at pace, is it just goals, or is it specifically Barcelona style passing football even if there is no end product? I seem to remember some people thought we were entertaining under Sousa, whereas I mostly remember us doing all the passing and moving in our own half, which I just find frustrating. Or maybe some peoople just want to see a mascot race every half-time?
