Safe Standing Roadshow

cant understand why everyone gets so hung up about standing at football. Genuienly not a wind up. Our stadium will suddenly become a cauldron of noise if we all stand up?

No but I'm fed up of being told what I can do inside the ground after spending a fortune on a ticket. If someone wants to sit down and eat a prawn sandwich, fine, but I'm not going to have them ruin my day. Football should be all standing, never mind partially. Of someone wants to sit down watching a sport, try tennis.

Has your view ever been impeded by fans standing up? Or has your day ever been spoilt by a fan behind you constantly yelling at you to sit down? Or have you ever wondered why the stewards are so adamant that YOU must sit, yet the thousands of other fans in the opposite stand are standing en masse? If any of these questions produce a yes, you'd be affected in a positive way thro safe standing

What happens when we're inevitably forced to sit down in l and k blocks?

Won't happen, all our singers/standers are in there, there's too many people for the stewards to do anything about it.

At away grounds standing sections would have more of an impact on me and our supporters in general. I've never had to sit down at a home game and if you want to stand you know where to go, but depending on what ground we are at and how high up I am I have had to sit at a few away games.

Disagree. I don't think that Berkely (sp) will give two hoots who's in there. There were as many people at elland road as there normally are in l n k block. Look how easily they managed to seat 1k ish fans up there. I think we're on borrowed time in those two blocks.

Yeh n who wants to sit at an away game? It's ok saying 'you know where to go if you want to stand at the home games' but the facts are that the tickets are too expensive there. Whether that be a STH in l block or a normal match ticket in k block. If the prices were cheaper (as they'd have to be for a standing area) the numbers would return.

Well I think it's very unlikely. The stewards have only ever looked bothered with individuals in the East Stand when they've been smoking.

Elland Road is notorious for having arsehole stewards that make people sit down, and there is a difference with away games, not everyone who goes to them is the type of person who sings, there are a certain number of older fans. In L and K there is pretty much only blokes under 50. They wouldn't dare try and get people to sit down in there.

Maybe, I hadn't thought of it like that

Out of interest though would the capacity be any bigger with these new modern 'terraces'? If not why would the prices be cheaper?

From what I understand about these modern ones, they aren't much like the old standing areas at all, you aren't crammed in.

The current stewards wouldn't no, I agree. But they're sound and are on first name terms with a fair few fans. All they'd have to do is swap the stewards over and start enforcing the law. Which brings me to the main point. It is law, the stewards are well within their rights to chuck fans out the ground for persistent standing, ala Leeds n wembley. We're breaking the law (long may it continue) yet here's an initiative to try and get it changed and Noone really wants to know.

Not breaking the law but stadium regulations.

I know FA about them. I think that with the seating folded up equates to the same amount of fans per row as with the seating down. You're certainly not crammed in any more so than when you're sat next to each other in the stand on Saturday.

If you sit near me at all on match days you'll know its currently a lot more dangerous standing with seats present than it would be on proper terracing

But chuck out over 1000 people? I can't see it happening. Even Barclay would see that's not going to do him much good, putting off that many paying customers out of awkwardness isn't a good business move.

I'm not against safe standing I just don't think it would make a huge difference to the atmosphere or the experience. Not in it's modern form anyway. I'd be happy for it to come in and make it cheaper for those who want to stand.

It depends how much the FA and clubs want to sanitise their support I guess. No 1k fans weren't chucked out at leeds, but a handful were. Most realised that they would indeed get chucked out n sat. But the stewards would be quite within their rights to.

Yeh that's what I thought. It's not really anything like terracing in that case. Personally, the crammed in nature of the old terracing is what I would like to see back, surely that was the exciting bit?

Would the lower prices be because you weren't paying for a seat? I first thought it would be because the capacity would be bigger.

But the law states currently that all footy ground from championship n above shall be all seater doesn't it?

I may be wrong. I thought it was law

It has to be all seater but there is no law that states fans can't stand.

Posted

I'm quite sure the capacity would remain roughly the same. That'd have to be a question you can ask them if we manage to get them to bring the tour to our ground one matchday! I think the cheaper prices would come about because you're not paying for a seat. (sp bit like if you had to stand in an airplane you'd want a cheaper plane ticket!)

Of course, the club wouldn't fall for the cheaper ticket prices spiel as its all about revenue for them

Posted

fair enough, though it still stands then that if youre in breach of the ground rules, they're entitled to chuck you out

Yes because your breaking stadium regulation not the law.

No it's a ground regulation enforced by the FA and football league.

Well I'll email the foxes trust and fan zone tomorrow. It can't do any harm. It's fine paying 400 quid a season to stand but its getting to the point where I can't afford it anymore. And if I can't stand I don't want to go to the football! A lot of my enthusiasm behind this is because the FA hide behind something which happened 20 odd years ago (despite advances in thinking from the SFA and Bundesliga) and use that to get to their ultimate objective, the sanitisation of football fans.

Hi Stu & other interested parties.

We are attending the Fans Consultative Committee tomorrow night (Thurs 12th), so have requested that this topic is added to the agenda.

Stu - please do continue to e-mail fanzone tomorrow & make reference to our request to discuss at the FCC, as that will help it being added to the agenda.

We have been in contact with the Safe Standing Show organisers previously, but at the time we were originally approached, Susan Whelan had only just been appointed as LCFC CEO and there were other topics we wanted to discuss as a priority during initial meetings (such as obtaining the old stadium frieze & selling for charity), however the SS Roadshow had remained on our list to discuss in future meetings (as we had established the roadshow would be available for all of this season).

Hopefully the topic will be covered tomorrow night & we will then report back. If agreement is reached that the roadshow can be held at the stadium, we will then contact posters on this thread who have already offered (or subsequently post to offer) help organising
