therams69 Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Hi all, Its your favourite sheep from down the road with the big flag! Anyway down to business.... You wont probably know but I am very much in favour of the introduction of safe standing into English football. It has been successful in Germany for around 11 years now with no issues. Safe standing will also now be trialled in Scotland which is great news and shows a hope that it could one day been implemented into English football. I have been contacted by quite a few Leicester fans over the last few weeks asking about this issue and one suggested I set a thread up on foxestalk. Forgetting rivalry, we need to work on this together as football fans, I believe we should have the choice to stand at football matches. Yesterday I held a very successful safe standing roadshow at our local pub in Derby. The Safe Standing Roadshow team brought an actual model of the safe standing area and to say its impressive would be an understatement, it was fab!! Looked safe and felt good! If anyone is interested please contact Jon at the www.safestandingroadshow.co.uk and see if you can arrange a time and place where all supporters can gather to view and ask questions in relation to safe standing. I am pushing the Derby side of it so would be good if you could get someone from Leicester involved, perhaps supporters groups etc... Whatever happened to the Fosse Boys??? Rgds Nick
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Mighty oaks from little acorns grow... Good luck.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Yeh, he will need good luck, cos every fuker moans about lack of atmosphere and being told to sit down, or not being able to see due to people standing in front of them, but nooone wants to lift a bloody finger to do something. I'll reiterate for the third, possibly fourth time on here I am willing to try help out and get this sorted. I thought that someone/ or an organisation associated with LCFC were liasing with the Safe Standing Roadshow about bringing it to Filbert Way. Does anyone know what happened with this? Or did that Berkely bloke get wind of it? Its pathetic to be honest, we have our Mayor and Andrew Bridgen both showing an interest, yet we can't organise a date or get anything arranged. Imagine the publicity it would get at a home game, coupled with the two mentioned above, as well as the Leicester Mercury and RL! Does anyone know who'd be the point of contact at the club to try and arrange something?

James. Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Does anyone know who'd be the point of contact at the club to try and arrange something? [email protected] is probably the best starting point? Or just call the club and ask them? What about the Foxes Trust, isn't this perfect material for them to push, given they're the voice of the supporters and all.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 I'll email the foxes trust and fan zone tomorrow. I'm very happy to do all the leg work but I really don't want to be the face of the person who's brought it to the club (in the mercury or a spokesperson for it) sod that I'm sick of the bitchin n moaning on here yet the lack of willingness to help out.
purpleronnie Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Its great that people are doing something but I can't see why the powers that be would ever allow standing back.
wellyfox Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 All for it. But i fear will never happen at the KP. If our stands are not designed to hold concerts where people may stand and enjoy themselves. How can it happen?
bluearmy7 Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 I am more than happy to help out if someone wants to get in touch [email protected] is my email anything to make things better for us fans
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Its great that people are doing something but I can't see why the powers that be would ever allow standing back. Scottish fans may well have thought the same a year or so ago.

Even so, I think the safe standing concept suits any stadia Thought mandi looked into it to bring in extra bunce. Was told they would need to spend 1/2 a mill plus as the design was wrong for people standing at concerts. Or something like it???? Sure it was all in the merc.
philce Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Something about needing extra supports under the stands for people dancing! Millennium stadium has removable supports for when they stage concerts.
Donut Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 cant understand why everyone gets so hung up about standing at football. Genuienly not a wind up. Our stadium will suddenly become a cauldron of noise if we all stand up?

Rgds Nick Great website real proof that standing doesn't have to be a move backwards towards terraces but can move forward so that new modern stadiums can also be standing too. Hope the regulations can move foward and stadiums can develop in this way makes sense for everyone I hate sitting being 6'2 I can barely fit between the rows of seats at the King Power
Kitchandro Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 cant understand why everyone gets so hung up about standing at football. Genuienly not a wind up. Our stadium will suddenly become a cauldron of noise if we all stand up? Standing and singing go hand in hand. Though I don't see how this will make a difference to our home support, other than hopefully attracting those that have been put off going in recent years because they think it's too different to what they used to experience. Even if an area was introduced in our ground it would surely be the same area where every already stands up in the East Stand. I don't see how it would make the atmosphere much better, if you sit in there now you can stand up and sing without any problems.
davieG Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 That the one . I remember thinking surely us all jumping up and down after a goal is more of a stress than dancing?? With music everyone is bouncing to the same beat unlike footy were every one is different, that's why marching soldiers break their step when walking over bridges. Do you not remember the problem with the Millennium Bridge across the Thames which wobbled it was discovered that due to it's narrow design and crowded status people were in effect walking 'in step' with each other. I don't think the problem would be affected by having a standing section as most of the movement from fans would be following a goal which happens anyway even in a seated stadium. Wiki The bridge's movements were caused by a 'positive feedback' phenomenon, known as Synchronous Lateral Excitation. The natural sway motion of people walking caused small sideways oscillations in the bridge, which in turn caused people on the bridge to sway in step, increasing the amplitude of the bridge oscillations and continually reinforcing the effect.[4] On the day of opening the bridge was crossed by 90,000 people, with up to 2,000 on the bridge at any one time. Resonant vibrational modes due to vertical loads (such as trains, traffic, pedestrians) and wind loads are well understood in bridge design. In the case of the Millennium Bridge, because the lateral motion caused the pedestrians loading the bridge to directly participate with the bridge, the vibrational modes had not been anticipated by the designers. The lateral vibration problems of the Millennium Bridge are very unusual, but not entirely unique.[5] Any bridge with lateral frequency modes of less than 1.3 Hz, and sufficiently low mass, could witness the same phenomenon with sufficient pedestrian loading. The greater the number of people, the greater the amplitude of the vibrations. Other bridges which have seen similar problems are: Birmingham NEC Link bridge, with a lateral frequency of 0.7 Hz Groves Suspension Bridge, Chester, in 1977 during the Jubilee river regatta Auckland Harbour Road Bridge, with a lateral frequency of 0.67 Hz, during a 1975 demonstration[6] After extensive analysis by the engineers [1], the problem was fixed by the retrofitting of 37 fluid-viscous dampers (energy dissipating) to control horizontal movement and 52 tuned mass dampers (inertial) to control vertical movement. This took from May 2001 to January 2002 and cost £5m. After a period of testing, the bridge was successfully re-opened on 22 February 2002. The bridge has not been subject to significant vibration since. In spite of the successful fix of the problem, the affectionate "wobbly bridge" epithet remains in common usage amongst Londoners.[7][8]

Well lets go for it then. TOP rip out the seats for saturday plse.
davieG Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 no probs mr architect. Well lets go for it then. TOP rip out the seats for saturday plse. Not an architect by any stretch just remember it being talked about. I believe if there is a problem it could well be with the angle of the stand and the size of each step. Best chance would be if they ever build on the East Stand as they could then change the angle of the existing lower section and make that all standing, you'd then have the 'standers' next to the away fans, who should be sitting and you could move all the existing East Standers up stairs if they didn't want to stand - simple
