NeilyBoy Posted 5 March 2012 Posted 5 March 2012 Where is this Hopper love come from? He has played 10 minutes against a league 2 side which definately gives him the credentials to get in the team above a man who has scored 200 league goals throughout his career. Steve is out of contract in the summer and will probably move down the divisions or retire, when he comes on the game is usually just about won and he is there to see the game out. So what purpose is he serving exactly? He's never been a goalscoring machine for us and he shouldn't play just because he's "scored 200 goals". Yes it's impressive. No it doesn't mean he's still good enough to be in a squad at this level. In fact most of his goals weren't even at this level anyway!
boring_jester Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I like him although I know he's past it. I thought he was amazing when we won derby 4-0, he looked like messi for a few minutes while going around 3 defenders and he also got the crowded pumped up even more then we were. I think he's the wise Yoda / grandady of the team (null)
PeterTaylorsApprentice Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Howard has done us well during his time, contributed well in his first two full seasons for us, i bow down to him, since then, he seems to have lost it, unfortunately, but as said, he is a good target man into the latter stages of the match, creating assists, against Derby (twice) and Doncaster, so fair play to him, i see him moving into either league 1 or a top league 2 side, he could still do damage their, and after he has gone, Emile will once again be in a Leicester City shirt, my take on things.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I think, by and large, he's been a terrible signing - considering what we paid, how good he was before he joined us and what he's actually done for us. Not being "picky" - just giving an honest assessment. He's not been good enough aside from a few occasional performances. Overall, a waste of transfer fee and wages and will be glad when he finally moves on. His worthwhile "moments" haven't been anywhere near often enough when you take the above into consideration. Interesting... So do I... Big Steve has strangely become another 'legend' at the club, again I guess because he's 'all effort' and, fair play to him, he has usually put in a shift. But you look at his goals to games ratio... It's dreadful. For a big man, although he's scored one or two with his head, that's all... Big Steve has done nowhere near as well as I thought he would at City, in terms of goals scored. And don't worry about the 'picky' bit.. That was your honest assessment and I agree with you.
beemeroo Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Won't hear a bad word said against the fella, if only for that Leeds goal.
strattylcfc Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I love him 3 assits and the goal against Leeds worth every thing
Happy Fox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Needs to go but replacing him will be very easy a couple of suggestions ( Futacs, Jay Rodriguez, Gary Madine, Jordan Rhodes etc)
RonnieTodger Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 His contract runs out on the summer. He's been a great servant for us and works as much as his slow frame will let him. It'd be harsh to sell him or release him. Why not let him just see his contract out? I'm sure he loves it here and he has an influence on the younger players. I'd like to see another 30 something as his replacement. HESKEY!
Mack Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 The bloke in the wheelchair with the constantly flashing hazard lights who sits at the front of the main stand is quicker than Howard now. Mind you watching him warm up before the Derby away game he still has a decent finish on him. He'll be off to a League 1 club in the summer.
Night Air Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Where's a grammar Nazi when you need one? Not that I'm against giving Howard this sack you mention. If you're not sharing your treats with the rest of the team you can gtfo. I know steve howard has been a good servant to leicester, but I feel at a time when Leicester are looking for the Premier League he isn't good enough. We are giving him appearances for the sake of it because he doesn't offer an attacking threat. I don't know what everyone else thinks on the subject?
Lambert09 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Without Howard we have no plan B up top. There have been games this year where we have needed it, for example Barnsley at home....Nothing was working for us, we were forced to play long ball but there was nobody to put it to good effect. When we put Howard on we look so much more dangerous, problem was he was only on for 10 mins or so.
