NeilyBoy Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I don't know people have to go out drinking waving flags to celebrate st georges day, we've never been a nation to do those things maybe its the english reserve I don't know ,but theres plenty of people who do celebrate it maybe not always in the way the irish or scots celebrate but they do celebrate it nonetheless, read some shakespeare or dickens or listen to some Elgar you dont have to get pissed or wave flags. Your parties must be banging.
purpleronnie Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Your parties must be banging. I didn't say I didn't get pissed on st georges.
Guest MattP Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I'm with Stu on this. Asked yesterday if every English person out celebrating St.Patricks Day were supporting Ireland in the rugby? For me, it's such a shame that most English people don't give a shit about St.George's day but can celebrate another nations day. I always go out for St Georges day and have a fantastic time. I actually prefer it how it is now with the people who are out have all booked off work etc etc and really made the effort, I would hate it to turn into the cringefest of silly hats and plastics all walking around claiming to be something its not. Get yourself down to Wrest Park in Bedfordshire one year, it's a huge St Georges day festval and a super day out.
The Doctor Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 Borin ell Not entirely sure what your problem is there. I'm not gonna celebrate St. Paddys day - I'm not Irish - but it's an excuse for a few drinks. Guinness isn't great when served cold, but once it's warmed up a tad it's a decent drink - if it's on cheaper than other pints, then why not have a couple?
Rincewind Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 If they are selling it cheaper and showing the game that is a bonus.
ScouseFox Posted 18 March 2012 Posted 18 March 2012 I went out and had a boss night. Loads of incredibly drunk (even for them) Irish people, loads of fit Irish birds, loads of cheap Irish drink. Would have been rude not to take advantage of that for an evening, whether I'm Irish or not.
