St. Pats Day

Loving people actually getting angry that someone would want an excuse for a piss up!

Do you go round shouting "plastic fvcking Christians!!!" at everyone not in church on Christmas day?

Exactly, some real jingoistic morons on here....or maybe they're just boring feckers.

Posted

No but you don't see Muslims celebrate Christmas, so why would someone non Irish celebrate St Patricks Day?

I wouldn't mind if they did they same for St George's Day but they probably don't even know when it is!

I don't think you understand the significant underlying metaphor of St. Patrick's Day in reality. If so most English or wouldn't drink to it. However, any excuse for a pish up in good nature is fine by me, the more the merrier.

Now I think, I've been hangin on the interweb too long, and should get myself down the pub to get warmed up for 17:00. ;)

Yeh, since anyone doing so is likened with the EDL

Plenty of people celebrate it, its a myth perpectuated but idiots on forums who think celebrating st georges day is tantamount to being a racist.

Like I say though, why not celebrate St George's Day in the same way? Because its unfashionable to do so. Though contradicting myself to a point, I'm glad April 23rd isn't anywhere near as commercialised as today.

Im all for a good knees up, but should i get on it today its because its a massive weekend. Not because i want to pretend to be Irish!

Also, a hell of a lot of people who live in Liverpool are Irish. Including quite a few of my mates. Am I meant to sit in watching Take Me Out whilst they celebrate one of their favourite days of the year? Or am I allowed to go and get pissed up with them?

Are you wearing a guiness hat, dressed in green too? If yes, then NO! It's my mates birthday tomorrow. I'm going on the piss with him but I'm not pretending its my birthday too!

If you were Irish then you'd know the answer to your first question, or if you were Welsh or Scottish for that matter. I like living in England, like my friends and family who are English, I don't agree if the commercialisation of Paddy's Day but you could be green for the day rather than an envious shade of hue stu. Imperial jealousy doesn't suit you ;)

Haha no, probably not. I'm just using it as an excuse to go get really drunk and have a few Guinnesses on the cheap. And see everyone happy.

Not too sure why someone would want to celebrate someone else's patriot saint. Plastic paddys, guiness hats, sat in an 'irish bar' with a leicester accent. Fkin cringeworthy.

To any genuine Irishmen on here, happy St Patricks Day. To the wannabe paddys you're a disgrace. It's all aboyt April 23rd

Hmmm, I wasn't aware November 30th had changed date.

Oh, and **** the Guinness, Jamesons is the way to go.

With you on this one.

Kind of agree with Stud here, I don't the whole Irish/Green thing. Whenever I go out on St. Paddy's (just got back) it's because it's a good laugh and a great atmosphere, not cause I'm 'celebrating'. I don't drink Guiness (I don't get why people do when they haven't done the other 364 days) and I don't get 'dress up in green' and whatnot> I'll have a great time but anybody who 'celebrates' St. Paddy's in this way (that isn't Irish) is a touch odd.

Can only speak for myself, but it was on offer. Served ice cold, I can't stand it, but for cheaper than everything else (bar Jamesons Whiskey & Bailey's) - I'll take a pint or two.

First time I've ever been called a stud! Cheers!

Do Irish people celebrate St Georges Day?, so why should we celebrate St Patricks Day.

:crylaugh:

It's the biggest day of the year here.

I'm with Stu on this.

Asked yesterday if every English person out celebrating St.Patricks Day were supporting Ireland in the rugby?

For me, it's such a shame that most English people don't give a shit about St.George's day but can celebrate another nations day.

I don't get it either. I drink Guinness on most nights but on St Paddy's day I specifically avoid it.

I don't know people have to go out drinking waving flags to celebrate st georges day, we've never been a nation to do those things maybe its the english reserve I don't know ,but theres plenty of people who do celebrate it maybe not always in the way the irish or scots celebrate but they do celebrate it nonetheless, read some shakespeare or dickens or listen to some Elgar you dont have to get pissed or wave flags.
