davieG Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 BBC A Worcestershire schoolboy has died after collapsing during a rugby match in Kidderminster. The 16-year-old, from Haybridge High in Hagley, was taken by air ambulance to Birmingham Children's Hospital at 16:30 GMT on Tuesday. He was taking part in a game against Kidderminster's Baxter College. "We are all terribly shocked and upset by what has happened," said Tony Homer, the chairman of governors for Haybridge High School. "Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this very sad time. "The school will offer all the support we possibly can to those affected." Resuscitation attempts West Midlands Ambulance Service said crews arrived to find the boy was not breathing and CPR was being performed by members of the public. A spokesman said: "Ambulance crews took over resuscitation attempts and advanced life support was carried out at the scene. "The boy was transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital by air ambulance for further emergency treatment. "Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews and hospital staff, nothing could be done to save the boy and he passed away shortly after arriving at hospital."
jonlcfc1990 Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Tragic. I was never a fan of playing rugby in school and i'd like to think i was one of the bigger lads who could handle himself, I just never thought it was a safe or fun sport.

I don't think it being rugby was relevant as it looks like it was a heart related condition.

Fox92 Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 RIP. Don't matter how fit you think you are, what you eat and drink, or what you do to become/stay healthy, you never know what is going on inside. 2 people who were in the same tutor group as me at school are now dead, it is sad when someone so young dies. I know this was a heart/organ problem, but I was never a fan of Rugby. Even more so when I was in PE 6 years ago at school and another pupil got tackled, fell into one of the rugby post's and dislocated his shoulder. Heard it crack, sick.
Bluefoxtim Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 No doubt the press were ready to pounce on a story like this.
Matt Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 RIP, Sad thing is I doubt this would be so publicised if it wasn't for what happened at the weekend.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 It's happened a few times in local Aussie Rules games, alot of clubs are running fund raisers and applying for goverment grants to get Defibrilators at there clubs. The Shopping centre management company i work for won awards for fitting out all of our Shopping centres Nationally with defibrilators. They are live saves and i think they will soon become manadatory for sporting clubs, schools, shopping centres any where were large groups of people are found.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 A terrible and tragic accident, Poor lad. RIP
