carlhltid Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 this chant will stick in my head forever cant remember what year it was but we was going for promotion from div 2 think we sang it for a good few games
Rich Fox Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 Was it when Jock Wallace was manager? I remember Ian Wilson scoring at Craven cottage to give us a 1 0 away win and narrow the gap before we went on to pip them to promotion. The away support was great that day I was just a kid and got well mushed up when we scored. Will always remember that away day.

Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 6 April 2012 Posted 6 April 2012 I was a teenager on one of my first visits to London, what a day. And the blue and white scarves flying from cars on the motorway home was ace, great memories.

I didnt go to Fulham but your right mate, ive seen footage and there must have been 6000 in that away end and it looked crazy. The LCFC v Burnley game is the game in question, May 1983, finished 0-0 with either Lineker or Smith having one hooked off the line by Burnley's Lee Dixon who went to Arsenal soon after. I got locked out with my dad, cant remember much other than a hailstorm just before kick off and taking shelter in a doorway on burnmoor st, about 50 Burnley fans went by shouting "we hate leicester" we could hear the crowd roar as it was 5 to 3 and there were 30000+ inside, walked around to the car park and this bloke came up to my dad and gave him two tickets for the double decker! in we went and that was that, Fulham were 1-0 down at Derby with about a minute and a half to play when Derby invaded the pitch, the result stood but it had to goto arbitration and we were hanging on for a few days before 3rd spot and promotion was clinched. Great times for a 9 yr old kid back then!

Leicester_Numan Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 The 82-83 season is what is currently showing on The Big Match Revisited on ITV4 on saturday mornings. You can see it right now on +1. They showed our 5-0 stuffing of Wolves a few weeks back
Karljohn Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 First time I have seen that purpleronnie, thank you for that, amazing stuff.

Was at Burnley game celebrating until we has to wait because of pitch invasion at Derby game also.

Great times for a 9 yr old kid back then! Remember it well. We had a friend from france staying with us. My parents said there was no way we were missing the match so got him a ticket as well. At the final whistle I turned to my mum to ask if I could go on the pitch only to see her halfway down the aisle. It was great out on the pitch, the running around, shouting, singing and the players coming out onto the directors area to take the plaudits throwing their shirts into the crowd. Great day though I don't know what our french guest though, probably went home and told everyone he stayed with a bunch of football hooligans.
dedlock Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 73/74 was good too. On the tube ,a group of City fans were singing " we are the boys in blue, the boys who'll entertain you" Delays at the turnstile, got to top of away terrace, first thing I see is the Mullery wonder volley repeatedly shown on TV! Lenny,Lenny Glover scored,a replay Lenny & Wortho in the replay.Bloomfield's team entertained us!The chant,if I recall, was from "It ain't half hot Mum"
Leicester_Numan Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 Wasnt Milne the manager ?? Yes, it was Gordon Milne. If you remember, that Derby v Fulham game was abandoned after 88 minutes but the result was allowed to stand
OzFox Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 I saw a lot of games back then and can honestly say I have no memory of our number 5 Robert Jones. Who the hell was he? Found this funny at the time, but watching it again I actually feel sorry for Fulham. What a farce. If that happened today the game would be abandoned in moments and with any luck, Derby relegated
Guest Bilo Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 I for one won't consider the KP christened until we've had a good old-fashioned celebratory pitch invasion. Brilliant footage there.

Yeah you should be allowed to go on the pitch and pat the goalkeeper every time he makes a decent save. Makes you feel more involved.
Guy Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 I also remember the then Fulham manager (a certain Malcolm McDonald) demanding a replay due to the crowd spilling events on the pitch but they lost their appeal and we were still promoted! Saw Malcolm McDonald in the above clip and Ray Lewington - who's still no.2 there after 30 years!!!
Guy Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 That game not being abandoned and then replayed at Derby in 1983 was almost as farcical as our game against Ipswich beiong allowed to continue last season in that blizzard - what goes around comes around in the end i guess!!

Saw Malcolm McDonald in the above clip and Ray Lewington - who's still no.2 there after 30 years!!! I thought McDonald spoke quite well in that clip. And he had a point. The match finished early, crowd were virtually on the pitch for 8 minutes, players kicked and beaten up... I bet if they'd been drawing and not losing, they would have got their replay. With regard to our match against Fulham, I remember that big terrace at on end of Craven Cottage being packed with our fans. Amazing atmosphere that day and crucial result.

sapalmer Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 I was 13 and this is probably the best away following I can remember - estimated 11k behind the blues and a fantastic Willy special won the game!!
