Captain... Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Will these only work on unlocked mobiles, or will it work on an O2 mobile. Where is the best place to get a unlocked smart phone online, I've always liked Sony mobiles, and heard good things about the HTC Radar, part of my would hate myself if I got an iphone. Seems like an excellent deal and I do need to upgrade, I have the same phone I had 5 years ago: From 2006, and now battered to fvck, but it still works.
Ozwin Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Gonna be a pain the arse if it isn't instant what with it being the weekend.

Ozwin Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Rang Orange and they sorted me out £12 a month with 500 texts (I never go over this apparently) and 750mb internet, for the sake of £2 a month I just took it. Sorted.
Captain... Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 Works on O2 without it being unlocked. so would it be cheaper to buy an O2 phone or an unlocked one, I've never really messed around with unlocking a phone.
Leicfox Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 so would it be cheaper to buy an O2 phone or an unlocked one, I've never really messed around with unlocking a phone. Probably cheaper for just an O2 (not much though, but it depends on the phone) but it's not expensive to get phones unlocked at independent mobile shops. It ranges from £5-£15 usually. But if your going to stick with one supplier (two in O2's case as Giff Gaff works on O2) there's no point UNLESS you want to root or jailbreak your phones. As soon as your with Giff Gaff you won't need another provider as its so good and value for money. What I love about it is even if my minutes have run out I still get Giff Gaff to Giff Gaff calls free for 3 months whatever and as my whole family are on it, its great when your skint as you can still use your phone.
Leicfox Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 If anyone is interested I might be selling my HTC Wildfire next week as I've got a HTC ONE S on the way. Wildfire is unlocked (Giff Gaff) and rooted with Android 2.3.7 running CyanogenMod 7 nightly build AND InfinityPlay kernel. Great little smart phone overclocked to run at 788MHz on different governors. Probably want around £60ish.
HEGGSY Posted 21 April 2012 Author Posted 21 April 2012 I've got my sim card, signed up and now it's asking me to choose my goodybag package, however I've not been asked for a PAC code. Do I just carry on?
Northants Fox 3 Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 I use this network as does the rest of my family...and as was said earlier it's free giff gaff to giff gaff, you get minutes added if someone calls you and you use the minutes rather than your credit, but if it's an unusual number such as International numbers or numbers like 0800 or 0845 that are free call on landlines then it uses your credit....(I had a caller from the USA (Oregon) and was gaining credit with each call.

HEGGSY Posted 23 April 2012 Author Posted 23 April 2012 Does anyone know if there's a cap on the data on giffgaff? It says unlimited but most of the time that's not the case.
Captain... Posted 23 April 2012 Posted 23 April 2012 I found this forum thread when searching for the answer: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1917456 Which linked to this, the official giffgaff community page: http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Welcome-and-News/Unlimited-Mobile-Internet-We-need-your-feedback/td-p/2972075 So it seems unlimited unless you take the piss, I have also signed up for a sim, I used Leicfox's link so he should be getting a present from me soon. It does seem too good to be true, but then it will only cost me a tenner to find out.
HEGGSY Posted 23 April 2012 Author Posted 23 April 2012 I've had no problems so far I've used about 10 minutes of my 250 and get a message after each call telling me what my current balance is and the £5 credit from leicfox hasn't even been touched. So far so good.
Captain... Posted 7 May 2012 Posted 7 May 2012 I use it as does my whole family. Great network imo. lcfcadam Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 The plan I'm on with Vodafone is spectacularly shit value and means I'm paying much more money for much less stuff, but I'm tied in to it till at least this time next year...
Daggers Posted 28 May 2012 Posted 28 May 2012 My Orange contract ends in three weeks so I've spent today downloading 5.1.1 for i4 before jailbreaking it with Absinthe 2.0 - I don't know why I've never done this before, I guess I never got around to it. I love lush free stuff. Now to work out how to unlock the thing so I can slot in a GiffGaff SIMcard.
